| How to Join Step 1: Go to Stanford's download page and select the version that fits your operating system. Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP "No-nonsense" text-only console is what most of the other team members use. It is slightly faster than the GUI version without additional graphics calculations to perform. Step 2: Create a directory for the client program (example: C:\Folding). Copy/cut the client program (FAH3Console.exe) to your new directory. Go online and run FAH3Console.exe, enter your desired username. For Team Number enter 1714 for team AsusBoards.com and enter no for all the other options if you're not using a proxy server. Step 3: A machine ID will be assigned to the client. The client will automatically start downloading a new work unit(wu) and fahcore needed to fold. Once the downloading is completed, it will automatically start to fold and you can go offline now. Step 4: Once your 1st wu is completed and uploaded back to stanford check the stats page. You'll will see your username on the next stats page update and you are then officially member of ABXZone.com Folding@home Team. The client will also automatically download another wu to work on. Happy Folding everyone. If theres any question, feel free to post it in the Distributed Computing Forum. We'll try our best to help. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to get gromacs work unit For text console version: Create a shortcut in desktop for example and browse to the FAH3Console.exe. Ex: D:\fah\FAH3Console.exe and add the flags here D:\fah\FAH3Console.exe -advmethods -forceasm Click next and its done. Start the client using the icon/shortcut, wait for the current wu to complete and it will download a new gromacs wu and core. Usage: -advmethods = Request to be assigned any new Cores or work units. -forceasm = Instruct the core to use SSE/3DNow assembly instructions if possible, even if it has previously made the determination that the machine may not be handling this well. | Finally decided to jump into the fold... got my P4 2.4B system and Athlon XP 1800+ system started on their first WU's tonight. Once I get my hands on a KVM I'll get the CUSL2-C and P3 1000 going to! With their present overclocks that'll be around 5400mhz of CPU's folding for the Asusboards TEAM.

| Yeah the dedicated forum for Distributed Computing kinda pushed me over the edge... plus it would be cool to see Asusboards.com kick some butt!

| Running the Folding at Home command line client as an NT service. edit: Fahsi over at [H] has a windows installer to set up FAH as a service: http://www.shroomery.org/files/fahsi/ Or, by hand: The following procedure works for Windows 2000 and Windows XP: 1) Download the client if you don't already have it: http://folding.stanford.edu/release/FAH3Console.exe 2) Next, you need two NT utilities called INSTSRV.EXE and SRVANY.EXE. Get them here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/service.zip 3) Put them in your Folding at Home directory - I'll use c:\fah for simplicity. 4) Next, open a commend prompt (run - cmd). At the prompt, type: cd c:\fah instsrv fah c:\fah\srvany.exe (it will tell you the service has been sucessfully installed) 5) open the registry editor (run - regedit) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\fah Create a New Key (folder) called "Parameters" inside the fah key (folder) In the Parameters key, create a new String Value called AppDirectory double-click it and set its value to c:\fah\ (or your fah directory if different) Also inside Parameters, create a new String Value called "Application" double-click it and set its value c:\fah\FAH3Console.exe (again, the c:\fah\ part would be different if you fah directory is different) 6) Finally, open your services control panel and find fah - Right click it and pick start (it will be set to automatic already). 7) Use the CPU monitor in the task manager (ctrl-alt-del) to verify that it's at or very near 100% (uniprocessory systems). | Good catch Beefy. I had copied from another post where I had changed the executables name throughout for consistency. Thanks. I'll be looking into monitoring tools soon. There's a bunch of info around. |

| The first time you run it, you have to be able to see it so you can enter necessary info. After it's got that, you can run it as a service. |

| If you want to use EMIII, for some reason I also had to rename the beta to FAH3console.exe...
