ANTEC P182- Which PSU; Thermaltake 850w or OCZ 1000w

I am planning to buy the Antec P182 case and would like to know if I should go with the OCZ 1000w or the Thermaltake 850w PSU? Are both modular? Will it fit in that case?

I would think the 850w would work fine.

The Corsair 620HX would be my recommendation for a PSU. I have 2 520HXs and I absolutely love them. The cables are modular and they are dead silent. The Corsairs are the highest rated PSUs tested by SPCR. I recently built a PC for a friend using the 520 with an 8800GTX and a quad core. He just bought another one for another PC with similar specs. For SLI, the 620 should handle it with no problem. A fully loaded 8800GTX SLI system uses no more than 500 watts.

To give you an idea, a Q6600 @ 3.5 GHz, 8800GTXs in SLI , 2GB PC6400 memory, 2 raptor drives in RAID plus the usual extras draws about 440W at peak load. So frankly, a 850 or 1000W PSU is a helluva lot more than you'd require. Sure, it's nice to future proof your system, but keep in mind that large PSUs are less efficient at low loads (draw more power from the wall outlet to produce DC output current).

A Corsair HX620W PSU which is very silent, comes with 5 year warraty and uses high quality and reliable Nippon Chemicon capacitors would do the job for you quite nicely. You could add another GTX for SLI later with no problems.

To be honest I don't know too much about those specific PSU's, but I feel like making a post. My understanding of Thermaltake is that they focus on looks more than quality, and then overprice their products. I've bought several cases and heatsinks from them and I've never been overwhelmed by quality. I wouldn't get a PSU from them.. just my 2 cents!

Hey,,,,,
I bought it already... I got a good deal on it so I snagged it. I currently have a 480w from Thermaltake. I think it should do the job.

I've got 2 Thermaltake 430W PSU's that have been running without issue for a year now.. I paid $39 each for them.... Pretty tough to beat that for value. ( They're dead quiet too.)

Not quite here yet. I bought it from RedFlagdeals.com for $160. It should arrive next week some time with my new Evga 680i!!

I will be putting my new computer together this month!!!
Here is what I am looking at.....

Q6600 2.4 B0 stepping
Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme with 2 120mm Scythe
Antec 182
Thermaltake 850w
Creative X-FI fatality
Evga 8800 GTX ACS KO
Western Digital 750GB SATA II
Pioneer 212 sata DVD-RWx2
