bang for buck psu

It has been a while since i posted here. I am wanting to build a windows machine again. Can anyone recommend a PSU that will work with all of the CPU's and boards. That gives me good performance that isn't crazy expensive.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,
Welcome back.
The Corsair TX line are good quality and if you catch them on sale at Newegg, with free shipping and/or mail-in rebates, the price is reasonable. But, "reasonable" is subjective. It all depends on what you are willing to spend.

Re: bang for buck psu

I bought an OCZ 500w modular w/$20 rebate for $39 but I don't game and don't have a need for more power req.

I am running an Ep45-ud3p with a single sata drive and 1 dvd burner and a E8400 with 4MB of ram and it's fine.

Newwegg as well but the offer may have ended.

You can use this to calculate your power requirements:

Re: bang for buck psu

If you list your components in detail, it's easier to estimate what you're going to need powerwise. Though the calculator suggested by PeterT might give you a ballpark figure.

400watts will work for most machines but it seems pretty subpar for others, what kind of configuration are you trying to fire it up with?

I'll have to agree with PeterT. Corsair TX series is awesome, silent and good quality. They just feel "real". I'd say they're definitely worth the extra bucks you put into them. I would recommend you to take at least ~550W - 600W If you plan on running several HDDs and graphic cards, those can consume a lot of energy. Also, it is good planning for the future if you plan on expanding your system. It is better to pay more once than pay less twice.
