Exploding PSU Warning: Corsair Lab Fun

Stop me if you have heard this one before. A couple of our guys were doing some load testing one day on some PSUs and had some fun with some "inexpensive" low end units.

The unit was rated at +3.3V@28A,+5V@34A,+12V@21A

We tested it with the 12V at 18A, the 3.3V at 20A, and the 5V at 10A on our load testers.

Check out the video clip, Why a high-quality PSU is an essential purchase.

Thanks, Mike! I'm about to do my third build in the last year or so, all with CMPSU-520HX's; wouldn't think of anything else!

Regards,

Quite disappointing. I was expecting a big boom.

Really though, it was a great video. I'm glad that didn't happen with the PSUs that came with the first cases I bought years ago.

Ditto, I'm planning a build around Nehalem in about a year and I will once again be purchasing the Corsair 520HX. I've been using nothing but the Corsair HX series ever since SPCR rated them as one of the top 3 PSUs for silence.

Re: Exploding PSU Warning: Corsair Lab Fun

It was interesting to read that Corsair pdf article regarding psu's:

Quote:
Drivers or hardware faults are also
much more likely to be blamed for causing system
instability, which means that a low-quality PSU
could cause reliability issues over an extended
period of time, without being identified as the
culprit.
Very true imho

Very intriguing. Something like this happening in a home could very well lead to disaster.
