| Medion 8383XL noise problem solved Well after my initial pleasure with this very well equipped PC I was somewhat disappointed with it sounding like a DC10 taking off, when under load. However thanks to be a tenacious ......... I managed to solve this issue. If anyone is interested then send me a PM for details, as it will cost you money. lol

| re:8383XL Noise Problem Dear Atomic, a belated Merry X'mas from a new member and newbie from down under in Australia. :wave2: Am interested in purchasing this unit, but want to find out some details on it but can't.Have tried numerous internet sites, emailed MSI Taiwan(No reply), US(No reply), Australia (No manuals available), Medion (Germany) -only have what is on advertisement brochure Motherboard manual: Have found out this is an MSI OEM board but can't find spec's. 915P chipset but don't know which one-PM-ILR / P Combo Series or P Neo2 Platinum. Memory: ? Dual Channel DDR2 as well as the stated dual channel DDR. Does it support Matrix Storage Technology? Is there provision for Serial ATA RAID? Does it provide two PCIe X 16 slots for SLI (Scalable Link Interface). Can SLI be activated through the video card or do you need 2PCIe slots and cards 6600XL Graphics Card manual. Apparently this is a rebranded Nvidia 6600 PCIe but am interested if it is the 6600 GT.Apparently no manual provided. Is it common practice for no manuals to be provided? 250 GB Hard Dive: What are sizes of partitions( C, D and E)? Contained Software: What documentation do they come with and what programme CD's are provided. Power Source:Apparently it is 350W -Do you believe this is enough to run the system.Would this be a contributing factor in the noise problem or was it to do with cooling.Advertising states "Very Quiet Fan Design" ExpansionGiven the system design, was expansion capabilities are there ie.Free PCI, free PCIe / PCIx, SATA connectors. RAID Have you got it RAID set-upped. Similarly could not locate a link on site to get to technical assistance. I hope this email is not too protracted and in the right forum. Regards and waiting in anticipation Littlefella ![]() |

| First off they didn't provide a usual Motherboard manual as they did with the 8080 XL, I have contacted the German head office about this and I will let you know when I hear from them as they are on holiday until the 4th January. First of all the CPU is a Grantsdale i915P. It has DDR SDRAM memory no DDR 2. As for Matrix storage no idea lol It has 2 SATA ports. No mention of RAID in the manual provided. It has one PCI Express slot so no SLI support. The Graphics card is a 6610 XL which is also specially made for Medion by MSI it has on it's label MS 8979B 0410491933 Art no 20024178 maybe you can google that or visit MSI .com for more info. This card is between the 6600 and the 6600 GT but is a great card up until my problem with mine, I will mention this later. The partition sizes are C:50% D:40% E:10% Microsoft works suite 2005 and Nero 6.6 as well as Windows on CD come with this comp, but all the software is on the back up partition D. There is one free PCI slot as the graphics card blocks the other free slot making it impossible to use this slot. As this system is Micro ATX format everything is a bit tightly packed anyway. You can find support at http://www.MedionAG.com or google Medion AG then click on the Map that comes up for your country. At this moment in time My graphics card is reporting that it's not receiving enough power, having swapped out the PSU to test their is no change in this error report. I would strongly advise against the purchase of this computer, I will list the problems I have encountered so far: 1: The sound is distorted when watching TV on this comp 2: It is very loud when under load( I fitted a new fan/heatsink before this was quiet in operation) 3:The CPU is slightly underclocked and the BIOS doesn't allow any Memory tweaks at all. 4: The memory will only run at SPD which is 3-3-3-8 5: The power supply has only enough power leads for what is inside the comp which suggests that Medion wanted to prevent anyone from installing more Hardware into it. 6: The case is badly ventilated with only the CPU fan(original) and the PSU fan providing cooling, Medion had troubles with the 8080 case and this case is identical, which surprised me as they fitted the Prescott 3.4E processer known for it's heat problems.( I can only assume they had alot of cases over from the 8080 and 8083 comps). 7:I will have to contact Medion myself on the 4th of January as to the Graphics/ Mobo problem. 8: For the price you get alot I suppose that's why I bought it, but if you want it for gaming then forget it, it wouldn't stand the heat in it's present case.(although you might put the guts into another case if you are good at modding cases) 9:The scart auto detect doesn't work properly. 10: Power Cinema 3.0 that comes with the comp is totally bugged and has many faults, although Medion released a patch there is still alot wrong with it, I have contacted Cyberlink about this. All in all this comp should be re-built by Medion not a good advertisement for Medion at all. As I speak fluent German I have been on the Forums in Germany where several people have posted a large range of faults with this computer. Conclusion: It's up to you but I would build my own system if I were you. Thank god I have a self built master comp that I use for gaming.

| Re: Medion 8383XL noise problem solved Hello, I hope you still use this forum as I realize that a few years have passed since you started this thread. However, I'm having the cursed problem which you mentioned with this computer. Namely, the fan sounds like it's about to take the PC into orbit. I've read the very helpful and detailed suggestions which you have posted and I would really appreciate your tip on how to solve the problem. This PC is about 4 1/2 years old and out of warranty. While it was under guarantee Medion sent out a local techie to look at the fan and he said there was nothing wrong with it but replaced it anyway. To cut a long story short it's now as bad as ever. So any help would be appreciated. Like yourself I can understand German but not the technical jargon associated with PCs, so the other forum would not be much use to me. Thanks. G. |
