Thumbs up Noisy Computer Made Quiet!

For a while now I've been thinking about doing something regarding to the amount of noise my rig makes. The case fans where hooked up to a standard power connector.

But I decided to try out the Fan Only connection, and it's amazing. My computer is so quiet I can run it 24/7 now!

And from what I can tell, my temps have not risen

Before it was like a vacum cleaner!

Whats the Fan only Connection? Also on the asus board i have it has q-fan. what does that do? My rig sounds like a 747. its because of the thermal take valcano 9.

It's a connector which the power supply plug is connected. It only for the fans, and makes the rig run very quiet.

I can only hear my CPU fan and hard drive, and almost nothing else! When I just came back into the room I thought the computer wasn't working because it was quiet!

The Fan Only connector is featured on my Antec TruePower PSU (See image). I don't know about other PSU's though.

The Q-Fan allows the mobo to set the speed of the fan according to the temps and load, meaning that when it's not needed, the fan will run quieter

Plus: I could swear that my videocard is running better now!

I originally connected the video card, hard drive, and fans all to one connector (All linked together). I found this out after I disconnected it and switched the hard drive off by mistake

But now the fans are connected to their own connectors, my 9700 graphics card and hard drive have the power all to themselves!

Unless I'm imagining things, FS ran much smoother and better than before!

after looking at link to q-fan: in bios of p4s8x there's no "speed up / down response time" option, even with q-fan enabled. Does anybody have it with diff. mobos?

Umm, I can't think of a reason how that connector helps quiet things down. Is it temperature-controlled?

The Antec TruePower PSU has low noise technology to vary the fan speed of the PSU fans. The fan only power connectors allow transmitting that same "service" to as many as three case fans. Therefore, when the PSU is not hot, the PSU fans and any case fans hooked up to the fan only connectors run at a reduced speed and are a lot quieter. When the PSU is hot (which happens seldom, if ever), everything will speed up to full speed.

I have had the same experience with Antec TruePower PSU. Great PSU. The big change I made to lower temps after installing the Antec TruePower PSU was to cut a hole in the side of my case. I then installed a duct in the hole so the cpu fan pulls air from outside of the case. This resulted in 3-4 degree C drop in CPU temps. Quiet PC now.
