| Recently, I have been having problems with rounded cables. Bios could not find hd's or cdr or dvd...whatever. They are premade ones. While responding to another post I became aware that another member was having the same probs. I swapped back to ribbons and voila.....AOK!!. Anyone else having probs with these cables

| jacobite - i haven't broken down to spend as much as they want on those dam things, i would send em back however, with a really good sharp razorblade/utility knife i made my own course, with ATA 100 cables you gotta be REALLY careful, i toasted 3 of em already  doh doing the floppy cable weas pretty easy tho, and reg cables are really easy to round..a small cut and you can pull em apart

| Yeah make your own. They are better and cheaper. I had a problem with a purchased rounded cable just like what you are getting. See my post on squaring cables. Also, for 80 wire AT100 ribbon cable, always split into even groups of wires (i.e. never split into more than 40 groups of 2 wires) this will keep the signal and ground wires together so you won't have signal degredation. http://www.cusl2c.com/vbulletin/show...p?threadid=601

| I just got done doing my own and they're awsome!! I used spiral cable wrap from radio shack to house them. This stuff is great - just coil it around and cut it off. It's flexible too. I can't believe the diffence it made in my case.

| I use those pre-made machine-rounded cables on the higher-end machines I build, and I haven't had any problems. -SSZ |

| Not my idea got it at this site. Fold your cables under your CUSL2 and they are out of the airflow. Get the round ones for looks if you like. |

| Be careful with the premade rounded cables, many of them (especially the early ones) are hand made ones, and are pretty dodgy. Look for machine made ones with a warranty. Yes they cost a lot more. I really want some of those silver ones to match my silver highly modded case. Donations welcome ![]()

| Cicada, that is one of the finest lookin' cases I have seen! Have you thought of entering it in one of those case mod contests? It looks much better than the ones I have seen take first place!

| Thanks. Nah, I didn't know they had case mod comps The difference between a good paint job and crap one - and the difference between laser cutting and hand cut is ZERO when it gets down to 72 dpi jpg files

| This is why I round my own cables You may have seen my post in the arstechnica Case & Cooling forum before: ![]() I round my own cables using expandable sleeving and heat shrink tubing, just like what Enermax does with their power supplies. No cutting is needed, I just fold the cable into a "W". Notice even the LiveDrive2 cable is rounded as well. Prerounded cables always have the middle, drive-to-drive portion rounded. This creates an excess portion of rounded cable dangling behind your drives. For a stealth look, I keep this portion FLAT and flush to the back of the drives. This keeps my 120mm Panaflo blowhole (pictured) happy. |

| hey Jaco, Yes, I fell for the promise of nicer loking rounded factory made cables. I found some for 15.99 US in a city near here and they were ugly beige. So, I painted them balck to match my new server case and they didn't even work!! I "squared" my Asus cables and wrapped them in spiral covering way back in July/Aug last year. So, after several trys and failures, I reintroduced them to my MB and VIOLA! I had to work real hard to get them to look normal so I could return them! I say stick to what you know works!! |
