| So I'm putting the water cooling project on hold to build a bare minimum system req's for a server computer. I've getting more and more into Exchange and Sharepoint at work, so I'm trying to build a system that will be my playing field. Of course, I can't just buy a case, and put components in it, that would be blasphemy! So here's the plan: make a computer that looks like a spider. I've going to start with a regular ATX case, but lay it on its side. It will essentially be used as a table for the monitor, keyboard and mouse. I was thinking of something like the Thermaltake Tsunami. I like that it has a big window, it will give me a chance to show of the spider mounting system. So, the first part of my brain dump shows the front view (what it would look like from the outside), and the top view. http://www.vheox.com/spider_computer/brain1.jpg Next we have a more detailed view of the mounting system. Essentially, I'm going to have all the legs attached to a central box (copper/steel), and the entire case will be suspended on that box by 2 X-shape copper/steel rods: http://www.vheox.com/spider_computer/brain2.jpg More detailed view of the mounting box: http://www.vheox.com/spider_computer/brain3.jpg Side view of the mounting box: http://www.vheox.com/spider_computer/brain4.jpg My main concerns are: 1. I've never done any welding before, and I think that'll be the only way to hold this whole system together 2. Not sure if it will be solid enough 3. Not sure on the exact case yet. I was thinking of a cube case first, but I think having an ATX will be more efficient since it can be used as a table, and I only have 1 already packed desk. Any thoughts? |

| Re: Spider Computer Brain Dump Cool idea. It looks like you are planning to suspend the case from the leg structure. I think it would make more sense to build the leg structure and then lay the case on top of it, instead of suspending it below. That would be easier to build and be more like the actual body structure of a spider. Good luck and have fun!
