| Two OCZ PSUs gone bad in two days-----weird!! NEVER had any thing like this happen before..... TWO----high quality----fairly expensive PSU ceased to function within two days of each other....both on different machines.... OCZ PowerStream 520 OCZ GameXTreme 700 Both were attached to Abit motherboards which have a little Postcode LCD Both showed 8.2 which is the code for ATX Power Failure Tried unplugging----letting them sit----all the tricks----NADA Both machines were in my sons room and haven't been used much since they were home on Spring Break two months ago..... But both machines fired up fine and worked just fine when they first came back from college......then one went down----two days later----the other.... I replaced the first PSU and the machine has run fine for several days I replaced the second PSU and it is running fine now as well. I've never had anything like this happen before----and within two days of each other-----with the same PSU manufacturer----is just too weird.... In fact----in all my years of building computers----I've only replaced a PSU ONCE (even the cheapies lasted).... Did I have some sort of Power Spike that wore these babies out..... Or are OCZ PSUs not that good to begin with and I didn't do my research before I bought them.... Or----did the gods of chance just align all the planets properly for OCZ PSU failure at my house..... Weird......

| Re: Two OCZ PSUs gone bad in two days-----weird!! Losing two PSUs so close together certainly could indicate you had a surge or other voltage deviation that impacted the units. Your local utility may have a power quality group that documents these kinds of fluctuations though many don't. Questions to ask them would include whether they had a transmission event or a fault on your circuit or a circuit on the same bus or substation. Also ask whether they had any switching activities on your circuit or substation that could have caused a voltage excursion in either direction (high or low). Also ask if there were any traffic accidents that affected utility infrastructure.

| Re: Two OCZ PSUs gone bad in two days-----weird!! I've always made a point of keeping my computer systems (and also my audio and video systems) on quality surge suppressors (e.g., $40 - $50). Invariably I need a power strip anyway, to provide enough outlets and room to plug in wallwarts, etc., and the suppressor accomplishes both purposes for minimal additional cost. I agree that the likeliest cause of these two failures was a power surge. But on the other hand, one thing that is certain in life is that coincidences will occur. Regards, -- Al

| Re: Two OCZ PSUs gone bad in two days-----weird!! I made a call and got a bad case of the the stupids from the local power company.... Switched me from one department to the other and on hold so long I finally gave up.... And both PSUs were attached to quality surge supressors which makes the power surge unlikely anyway.... Good news: Both PSUs were under warranty! Bad news: In my desire to be "done" with this job and move on----I had thrown both PSUs in a box in my garage.... That particular box was seen by my lovely wife as "trash" and "trash" box was then actually placed in the trashcan....makes sense.... Which was picked up by our efficient sanitation deparment this morning while I was at work.... ![]() Ce la Vie' ![]()

| Re: Two OCZ PSUs gone bad in two days-----weird!! I've only had one PSU go down in all my years of building pc's. And guess what brand, yeah it was a OCZ 600w psu. They/OCZ do have a great warranty, as they replaced mine.
