| Is the 9550 a "fixed" Phenom I've seen some decent pricing on the 9550 Phenoms..... Is this version "fixed"...... No errata stuff or problems??? How does it stack up to a comparitively priced Intel.... Slower?? A LOT slower?? The price on these seems attractive when combined with a newer nvidia or AMD chipset board...... If the performance was "about the same" -------for a lot less money..... Might look into it.....

| Re: Is the 9550 a "fixed" Phenom The 9x50 use the B3 stepping and are free of any TLB errata. From what I've read, they're quite good value for money, even more so paired with e.g. a 780G mobo, which has very potent on-board graphics. I think you'd have to settle for a dual-core Intel at that price, but I have a hunch it'll still be faster in most cases (as you may get away with a Penryn). Unless you have loads that love more cores, and you'll rely on discrete graphics, Intel is probably better. I'm looking at the Phenom myself. Mostly because it's cheap, pretty fast, uses DDR2, and has a great platform with the 780G chipset. Also, four slightly slower cores will compile stuff faster than two slightly faster ones.

| Re: Is the 9550 a "fixed" Phenom I do a lot of video editing and I was thinking this might be a great solution for a cheap editing workstation...... And----for my stuff----the onboard graphics might be fine..... And I love the idea of the Hybrid graphics----you haven't lost any investment in your onboard if you add to your graphics.... Looking more and more attractive.....

| Re: Is the 9550 a "fixed" Phenom It has the Avivo stuff, too, which means it'll decode HD video on the chipset. Though I expect even the fastest Phenom will lose with a rather huge margin to any SSE4.1-enabled Intel processor in video encoding, provided the encoder uses SSE4.1 as well.

A 9550 for $199 Decent board for $80-90----maybe cheaper 4 gigs of memory for less than $100 Case with 500W powersupply for around $50----if you shop a bit.... DVD Burner for $30 a Terrabyte drive for around $100 If you pinch your pennies and shop a bit----you could possibly get this to less than $500 for a fantastically capable workstation with EXCELLENT graphics. If you were just swapping out a board and already had DDR2, case and drives----$300 would get you something pretty special.... And expandable.....

| Re: Is the 9550 a "fixed" Phenom Yup. There is definitely a lot of potential. The Phenom is a great chip, and if the lower frequencies it's available at isn't a problem, it's worth contemplating.
