| BIOS issues It's been a while since I've posted, but since you guys know alot, figured I give a shot to see if you can help me out. Sorry to make this long, just wanted to make sure I touched on everything. I bought a X2 4400+ and Asus A8N-SLI Premium in late July to upgrade from an Intel system. The whole build went smoothly and it ran perfectly for a few weeks, I then noticed that my fan headers weren't working so I exchanged the mobo for another one. The second mobo, after 1 week of operation would start generating BIOS Rom Checksum errors after a warm reboot and occasionally a cold boot. I solved this problem by recovering the original bios from the Asus support cd (version 1001) and then proceeded to update to the latest one at the time (1006). This turned out to be temporary as the problem would keep coming up every so often. I got pretty annoyed so I exchanged this one in again hoping it to be the last time. This was around mid August I believe and for the last 2 months I've had no issues whatsoever. Then this past Thursday, after a few days of uptime, I decided to do some software updates and had to restart, and the BIOS ROM checksum error showed up. Mind you, in the past 2 months before this, I've restarted my system a fair number of times and nothing happened. The troubleshooting began, and like the previous time, I used the Asus cd to recover the original 1001 bios and then proceeded to update to the latest non beta (1008). The update went fine, but when it restarted it wouldn't post and would go directly to the BIOS ROM checksum error warning screen. I've tried several different ways of updating the BIOS and all seem to keep giving that error. I've also tried bios version 1005 (what came with the board) and 1006 to no avail. At this point I was lost as to what was wrong, so I reverted back to 1001 and I was able to boot into Windows. Last night, I installed the Asus update program and updated the bios through windows (to version 1008). Well this time, it actually did POST but when I changed the settings around, saved and rebooted, same error showed up. Anyways, does anyone else have any suggestions as to what might be the problem. Since this has happened on more than one board, I'm starting to think if there is something that is causing the BIOS ROM to go bad. I've also read that memory can be a culprit to BIOS ROM checksum errors also, but I'm not sure if running memtest on default settings of the 1001 BIOS will actually tell me anything. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. | Reseat your cpu. Recheck Vid card seating. Remove cmos battery while doing this so you have a clearing of the bios. And see what happens from there.
