| computer turns on for 1 sec then shuts off Hello. I am currently working on my Sage TV computer, switching cases for it. The old case had a 480W power supply, generic of course, This came with the computer. The computer which I acquired from my dad. The new case (actually my OLD PC case) has a 450W Power Supply that came with my Xion case. The new Sage TV case is not a Xion case. The Xion case has a 550W Antec Tru Power. So the new Sage TV case has the Xion 450w supply. For this session, we will call the Old Sage TV case the old case, and the old PC case the new case. I took all the perphials (sp?) out of the old case, and set them aside. Transferred the mother board to the new case. The motherboard is a Chaintech CT-SKT600 Socket A AMD board, with a VIA KT600 chipset. The cip Is an Athalon XP 1600 I think. The computer worked fine when I shut it off. I placed the MB in the new computer, hooked up the power supply, and all the front panel stuff. And it turns on for one second and shuts off. You can hear something click on the MB. The power light stays on though. Removed the connections for all the front panel stuff. Same thing. The only thing plugged into this board is the main PSU, and chip fan. Replaced the Xion PSU wuith the old computers PSU, and guess what? Same thing. So now I'm ******. any Ideas?

| Try total disassembly and reassembly. Seat and reseat everything 3 or 4 times before the final plug in. ![]() __________________ Asus P4P800 Deluxe Intel P4 3.2 Extreme Edition @ 3.47 / Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu / Arctic Silver Ceramique 2x512 Mushkin PC3500 222 Black Hi Performance Level II ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon X800 XT / Samsung Syncmaster 215TW 21" Wide Screen LCD Two Western Digital 250 Gb Raid Edition hdd's Two Western Digital My Book 500 gigabyte external USB2/Firewire hard drives LiteOn 165H6S DVD Super AllWriter / LiteOn 166s 16x DVD-Rom Onboard LAN Antec SX1240 full tower Soundblaster Audigy 2 zs Platinum / CambridgeSoundworks 5.1 DTT 3500 Digital Speakers Logitech G5 Laser Mouse Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard Razer eXactMat + eXactRest win2000 |

| Well, turned out that apparently I needed to put some tyhermal paste on the CPU. I dopn't know why, I never took it apart and it was already there. But when I did it worked propery. And there wasn't anyting to unseat and reseat. Literally the only things plugged into the computer was the power cable to the power supply; power supply to the MB, and the CPU fan to the MB. Nothing else. So onto my next problem. You'd think that just switching cases would be easy, right? Let's jsut ignore the fact I bought fans that didn't come with the correct screws to install them. Let's talk about the startup. After I reinstalled everything, and booted 'er up, now it doesn't like to run right. After about 3 minutes, windows locks up, or so it seems. I can still use the mouse, but I can't do anything. All the programs are still running that were running. in fact I can Alt+Tab between them, but I can't do anything. I can bring up the task manager, and it tells me that my CPU usage is 0%. Now I can't get rid of the task manager, or really do anything in it, but I can bring it up and look at it. Also, no more sound, suddenly doesn't recognize my sound card. No more internet. For some reason my network card no longer exists either. I'm sure there are other problems, but this is where I gave up.

| Good to hear progress is being made. The overheating auto shutdown of AMD motherboards kicked in. Good. Better than frying a CPU. ![]() __________________ Visit and chat with the Buds at the #ABxZone channel on EFnet Internet Relay Chat If you don't have it then download mIRC from www.mIRC.com |

| At this point I might be looking for a grounding problem, perhaps an errant screw or unused standoff from the previous Mobo causing a short to the back of the "new" motherboard.... Also check the USB headers to make sure they are wired the same on both cases (yes, there are different USB pinout standards)

| Well the USB is plugged directly into the USB port on the back of the MB. So I i'm sire that didn't change since it's hardwired in, lol.
