| Dilemma - Clawhammer or San Diego 4000+ I know I know. There have been a billion discussions on the differences between the two steppings of the 4000+ but this is a real dilemma. I bought a "San Diego" core 4000+ on Ebay. I get the chip and notice the Stepping says it's: CAA2C ***? That isn't San Diego!!!!!! I look it up and I can't find it anywhere under the San Diego name! I found out later on that this is the 1mb L2 cache CLawhammer. But, normally we'd think, eh', a 4000 is a 4000! But the 90nm runs cooler (I have a warm room and it affects my computer) and it runs at a lower Wattage! I got the chip for a STEAL of 250 bucks. The guy offered to refund all my money and shipping. What should I do? Should I just keep it? Do I send it back to him and get my 250 bucks? Or do I sell it for 300 elsewhere and run the risk of it not selling? Or, do I just keep it? Can anyone tell me the real differences between the cores that I'll notice the most? Cuz I heard that I'd never tell the diffference in everday usage. So, anyone want to tell me which core the CAA2C stepping is specifically. I'm only guessing it's the Clawhamer. Thanks! I dunno guys. I need your help. :/

| 4000+ 2,4 GHz 1 MByte HT800 S939 SSE2, AMD64, C'n'Q, NX Thing that puzzles me is the HT800, I had a 3500 Newcastle ( also 130nm like your core) and it heated a lot more than my later 4000 San Diego. And was not so overclockable due to the heat generated. If you can give it back without any loss I would go for that mate and buy me an opteron 144 or 146 which are in the same budget of around 200-250 dollars. They have a solid memory controller, 1mb cache , OC like hell on stock voltage and run very cool. I swapped my 4000 San Diego for an Opteron 146 which not only runs cooler than the Sandie but runs happily at 2700mhz at 1.4 volts 24/7 (300 X 9 DDR333 divider, temps idle 27°C / load 45°C). So about FX55 performance And it only costed me 230 euros while the 4000 is around 360 in Europe ![]()

| haha nice. But, I already returned it and got the San Diego for 249! 1 dollar cheaper! What a deal. Anyway, I'll look into getting that 146 though. Sounds like a good chip to play with.

| Well I have it Oc'ed at 2700Mhz ( fine for me rockstable at 1.4 volts ) so in between FX55 and FX57 cpu's and it costs around 100 euros less ( about 60 dollars ) then a A64 4000 one( which had probs once over 250FSB ). If they keep on fabricating these babies I'm gonna advice them to all my buddies instead of normal A64. ![]()
