I've noticed on sandra apart from it taking years to load my hard drive scores are a little unusual see access time ? was 4ms on my old intel system ..???

System is....

AMD 3800 X2
500W PSU Levicom
Asus A8n32 SLi Deluxe 1.1 1.09 bios
XFX 7900 GTX (1730/675)
1 Gb OCZ PC4000
Audigy 2
2x WD 740 Raptors Raid-O
IIyama 511s LCD 20

system is not clocked cpu cooler is retail AMD

CPU temp is:-
53 load
GPU :-
65 Max load 41 idle

Last install I did:-

XP SP1
SP2
Direct x9 c(dec version)
AMD driver
MS hot fix
Registry entry for hot fix
checked my boot ini as per instructions
Nvidia chipset program driver
84.21 Dets
Latest Audigy 2 driver

PC was restarted after everything..
I didn't install AMD cool n Quiet

This seems to me, like you need to install the AMD Processor driver for your X2 cpu, and the dual core hotfix from Microsoft.

Reset your bios to make sure you dont have any messed up settings. There is probably something wrong with your hardware or your doing something drastically wrong with how you are doing things?

probably a no brainer but I assume you installed the newest bios before anything. Neither of my last 2 939 mobos had support for X2 in the shipped bios

Its possible its a bios setting I've used 16 & 32 k cluters when creating the raid array either of em have always worked in the past...a friend came round and cheked my bios(it has been fully reset!) he turned off Power managment /APM which had the nice effect on the 16 th install of XP of restarting the machine each time it tried to go into windows...

I;ve disabled the Silicon Image controller & the marvell Nic as they arnt going to be used and the problem still existed before i did that other wise bios is all at default ???

thanx for all the ideas though...!!!

Try to set the memory timings to manual and set them according to the specs listed in the bios. Also, try to increase the memory voltage to 2.75v in the bios.

There was an article i read on the review of our board and they mentioned that after updating the bios it changed the memory timings so that it had to be manually set. I believe it was the cpu/mem ratio that got turned way down. Might want to check that.

Found the except: ( sorry i don't remember where this was from, what site )

""ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe: Why Lower Performance?

Almost any fresh-to-market product has some imperfections which are eventually get corrected by the manufacturer in the new revisions or firmware updates. The A8N320SLI Deluxe mainboard didn’t make an exception. The defect in this mainboard was that the SB to NB Frequency option changed automatically after the BIOS settings were reset or the BIOS was updated. This option adjusts the multiplier of the HyperTransport bus frequency between the chipset’s Bridges and thus directly affects the bus bandwidth.

On all new ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe mainboards this option is initially set at the correct value of 5X which yields a resulting frequency of 1000MHz. It turns out, however, that any BIOS update or clearing of the CMOS chip with the appropriate jumper resets this option to 2X and the bus frequency is reduced from 1000 to 400MHz as a consequence (the base HyperTransport frequency is 200MHz). The bus bandwidth is reduced in more than two times which can’t but tell negatively on the mainboard performance.

So we manually set the multiplier at 5X, thus restoring the frequency of the HyperTransport bus between the chipset’s Bridges to its nominal value, and retested the A8N32-SLI Deluxe mainboard in gaming and synthetic tests with a new version of the Nvidia nForce driver. The information that the HyperTransport channels between the CPU and North Bridge are 8 bits wide hasn’t been confirmed, although the appropriate setting of our sample of the A8N32-SLI Deluxe was initially set at “8|8”. The performance of the mainboard grew up considerably after we set it at “16|16”.

So here’s our recommendation to all people who are or will be using an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe mainboard. To avoid the low performance problem, be careful when you update the BIOS or clear the CMOS chip for overclocking or other purposes. When you start your system with this mainboard up for the first time, make sure the K8 to NB LinkWidth and the SB to NB LinkWidth options are both set at 16|16 and that the SB to NB Frequency option is set at 5X. Make this check every time you update the mainboard’s BIOS or reset the CMOS to be sure the performance of your mainboard is at the maximum.

This problem may be solved in upcoming BIOS updates, but the last available update we tried didn’t help. It is possible ASUS will release a new revision of the mainboard without the mentioned defect.""

There are 2 things I see that could/should help. First, load the latest bios. It is far better than the 1109 bios.

Also, I think it was Polonyc2 in his A8N32 SLI stickied thread here that noted a Raptor vs Nvidia issue. How old are your Raptors? If they are very old at all you may need a firmware update to make them play nice with the Nvidia controller. Look near the end of the thread.

Between these 2 things you "should" get it sorted.

Mike .

I took a screen grab of mem setting using CPU-Z

and changed them in the bios

and

gave me in CPU Z

I also set the mem to 2.8V its recommended voltage...all these things didnt help/change anything only me sandra me scores are about 1000 less..not that im botherd about that oh I timed sisandra opening it is between 32-37seconds..

Sorrow I've checked SB/NB link and it is @16/16 Fquencey is also @ 5

Spec mike my raptors are old I went through most of the end of that thread i couldnt seenything releated to raptors n firmware update...?

What i did see which was intersesting was not loading the Nvidia ide driver which ive done every time ?? I was going to uninstall it but this is all i got in add/remove progams?

I was going to do the bottom one? nforce pci managment driver is that the ide driver ?...also what is the media shield listed ?
thanks for all the ideas..

It's on page 57 but, it involves Maxtor drives and not Raptors. Sorry.

Have you flashed the bios? The 1009 bios is absolutely horrible and it can only help to go to 1103.

Mike.
