| Help getting Cool and Quiet working? I'm running BIOS 1.011 on my K8N-E Deluxe/AMD 64 3000+. CPUz always says I'm running at half the multiplier, 5. So my processor is running at half the speed. I run SETI, I run Prime95 to make the processor run at full speed, CPUz still says I'm running at 200*5=1000. I don't OC. Cool and Quiet is enabled in the BIOS. This works on my other install of XP OS on an older, slower hard drive. That one I installed over 2 years ago when I first got this system board. It just never works when I install XP again. Now, this really works, when I boot to my other, old, hard drive, I haven't reformatted it yet, so its a simple BIOS drive boot order change to get back into that one. That is all I change in the BIOS, just the drive boot order. When I run "Cool & Quiet" 1.008 provided to me from ASUS, it shows the CPU speed adjusting dynamically based on need. Plus, it runs a lot cooler. When I run CPUz, it confirms, when I'm idle, it runs the multiplier at 5. When I run Prime, it jumps to 10. This is the desired mode of operation. On my new XP install, I have installed the following from ASUS's web site; "nVIDIA nForce3 Chipset Driver for Windows 2000/XP" 4.31 "ASUS Cool&Quiet Driver V1.1.0.14 for Windows XP." 1.1.0.14 "Silicon Image Serial ATA IDE Driver V1.0.0.2 and Raid Driver V1.0.0.7 for Windows 2000/XP/2003" 1.0.0.2 Then my PC is running at half the clock per CPUz. However, when I put it under load, Prime95, whatever, it always remains at 5 as the multiplier. This really stinks. This used to work. So I launch explorer (not IE) and browse through the directory structure to my old hard drive and run “G:\Program Files\ASUS\Cool & Quiet\cool&quiet.exe” thinking this is the problem, maybe I just have to run this program. No, this doesn't fix it either. So, I've installed what I believe are the correct and recent drivers for Windows XP as supplied by ASUS' web site, and my processor 3000+ is running at half speed. No, I don't OC. In order to get it to work, I have to boot to the older installed bloated with all the other stuff just to get my processor running at full speed on demand. This clearly seems to be a driver issue. Is it broken in the newer releases of the ASUS drivers. I haven't located my old CD. I don't know what versions of the drivers above the older XP install has on it. I only know there is a program called \Program Files\ASUS\Cool & Quiet\cool&quiet.exe which runs correctly on the old install and its version is 1.008. Can anyone tell me how to make this really work on my new install? Thanks. |

| In order for CnQ to work you must set your system power scheme in power options to "Minimal Power Management". [...] Or it could just be an error with CPU-Z. Have you tried other CPUID programs? Have you run CPU benchmarks with CnQ disabled and enabled in the BIOS?

| scream151 this option is disabled in BIOS for my system. I don't use (and care) for it. Some people encounter problems especially if they o/c their PCs. On the other hand AMDs are not Preshots |

| old AMD64 CPU driver! The version of the AMD64 CPU driver that you are using is "old" Uninstall that version --Reboot! and then D/L the latest version 1.3.2.16 rev July 2006 http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...1_9706,00.html In order to make this work you will besides enabling the Cool n' Quiet feature in your BIOS...You will need to enable ACPI 2.0 Support in your BIOS as well and use the Minimal Power Management scheme in Windows The ASUS Cool n' Quiet proggie on your mobo CD is just a GUI application Saphire
