New Build Problems

I just put a new build together. The original A64 worked fine until one day, Kablewie. I thought it was the power supply, but it tests fine. Then I reassemble and it won't even power up. Knowing the PS does fine when I test it, I assume it is a Mobo issue. So I upgrade using some of the parts to make the machine below.

AMD A64 X2 3800+
MSI K9VGM-V Socket AM2 VIA K8M890 Micro ATX Motherboard
CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) DD2 675 Dual Channel Kit
XFX GeForce 7300GS 512MB(256MB on Board) 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150
SoundBlaster Audigy 2
Antec True Blue 480 Watt power supply
NEC 3550A 16X DVD Burner
Windows XP Pro

It powers up fine now. I can see the Bios flashing by (don't know what else to call it), so I know my Mobo sees my hard drive. However, when I boot from a CD to install Windows the program tells me that there is no hard drive on my system, so it cannot continue to install. Then I get a blue screen that reads:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF7A2B528, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

Help!! I can't check for viruses unless I can run Windows?? There is only one hard drive newly installed. And I am not really sure how to run CHKDSK /F. Any ideas?

Do you need to install the Sata drivers (F6) during the windows install?

Set the bios back to default, restart. Then go back into the bios and make sure you have the SATA drives turned on, save and restart again.

So it sounds like there are two places to check - Bios and Windows installation itself and make sure that the SATA drivers are active. Thanks. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

If you guys were curious, it was the bios. It was set for a RAID configuration despite only having 1 Hard Drive. However, the menu was pretty deep in the BIOS. I must have just missed it when setting it up. Thanks for the help!!

Works perfectly now!! It has been running very swiftly the past week. One thing that is weird that I am trying to figure out is my Main Hard drive is showing as a removable object constantly. The little icon on the bottom task bar allows me to "safely remove" the only hard drive on my computer. I can't figure out why!!!
