Arrow What to upgrade?

Before i start, if i have posted this in the wrong section then feel free to move it.

Ok, so i want to upgrade to get better performance in general but also in Counter Strike Source and World of Warcraft (Burning Crusade coming up). My PC spec is in my profile but i'll also write it below. What i'd like to know is this, from looking at my current set up, what should i upgrade next. For exmaple, should i get a more powerful processor? If so which one? Should i get a second graphics card and run it with my current one (Leadtek WinFast PX7800 GT) in SLI, or should i sell my current one and with my current money buy a singular more powerful one? Just a few ideas i've come up with , but i would like YOUR input

My current set up:
  • Motherboard - A8N-Sli Premium
  • CPU - AMD X2 3800+
  • RAM - OCZ 2GB PC3200 Dual Channel 400MHz DDR CL 2-3-2-5 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
  • Graphics Card - Leadtek WinFast PX7800 GT
  • Operating System - Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
  • Power Supply - 450W (Can be upgraded also if needed)

anything you upgrade wont be a really noticeable performance increase. Either wait until you can afford a whole new computer, or you are wasting money!

A good upgrade is a larger monitor (at least 19" if you don't have)

I've been doing a bit of research and my impression is that my CPU is fine, and so is my graphics card, the only thing i could upgrade is to DDR2 RAM but that would mean getting a new motherboard too.

DDR2 isnt even any better than DDR1. It has 0 performance increase until it is more than twice the clock (DDR2-800 equals or slightly beats DDR-400). For what you have to replace, motherboard, cpu and ram, you will get allmost no performance increase.

DDR2 requires an entire new system? Ok thats out of the equation then

I went from a 3800X2 to a 4600X2 and the difference although not extreme was worthwhile and socket 939 x2 chips are pretty well priced at present (I do not overclock though)

OK Fasuno I did not know it.
BTW if you go for new PSU at least 500 Watts and a good brand name (Antec, Enermax, Fortron) etc...
I love Enermax PSUs!

Ok thanks for the advice Sean I've already started to overclock a bit, my CPU Frequency was on 200MHz and in the past 5 days i've got it up to 220MHz. Whatever PSU i buy it will be from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal..._Supplies.html , my computer makes quite a bit of noise and im trying to figure out whats causing it. It's definately not the case fan which means its either the PSU or the CPU heatsink. I've noticed on that overclockers site i just linked alot of PSU's saw they are very quiet or silent, could my PSU be whats causing the noise?

I would just upgrade the CPU since the higher dual core CPU's are less expensive now. I think the rest of your system is fine for those games.

but for the cost, you will not get much added performance! if you had a single core 3000+, maybe get a higher end chip, but your 3800+X2 is more than enough for any game that will run on a DirectX 9 video card.
