Impossible. SLI is an nvidia technology and requires drivers that support it. You may be able to install both cards, and possibly even use them independently, but they are not running in SLI mode.

Not entirely correct. This page talks about SLI without the connector, but, as of today, SLI does require video cards with an (SLI enabled) nvidia chipset.

edit for clarity

Its probably just running off of one card and not 2 just doesn't know it?

Thanks - I'll try that.

Also thanks for the ATI alert - good job I leaned that before doing any benchamrking" I'll swpa them out for a couple of Nvidia cards.

If you want to run SLI, make sure the nVidia cards you get are SLI approved (apparently a sticker on the box)... (likely 6600GT cards... or 6800GT/Ultra if you can even find them).

Thanks for the helpful links - I'm sure I'll find something suitably quiet.

Also I don't mind some of the earlier patronising comments about my efforts - I'm always happy to have my errors pointed out politely by experts. That's why I'm a member of ABXZone.

NP. Let me know how it goes on the HD detection issue. This issue about drove me crazy that first night. Now I just have one anomaly I can't explain and therefore, haven't solved, yet...

I'm out of town for a few days but I'm putting aside next weekend for further work on the board - hopefully the Nvidia cards will have arrived by then.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

hey, does anybody know how to disengage the lock on the pci-e slots? What I mean is so that I can physically remove the video card from the slot. I should have looked at this carefully when there was no cards in the slots, but now with both populated, it sort of is covered over and I don't have a clear sight of it. Any help appreciated.

Also, has anyone removed the heatsink from the chipset? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks!

As you look at the motherboard, near the ram slots, at the end of the slot, the is little plastic locking arm. You have to pull this 'down' (towards the PCI slots) while pulling the card out, as least thats what I did Trouble is, there's very little room to work around the ram slots - not the best design! Oh it doesn't help to RTFM either - as its not mentioned!

I know, it is not mentioned in the manual at all! I was surprised, because it seems to be a very well written, easy to understand, detailed manual!

Thanks for the reply! :wave2:

Tried 1003.005, won't let me boot above 232 HTT, whereas I was at 240 no problems with 1003.003. Anything (apart from the PCI lock) new in 005 that needs to be adjusted?

Also I have cold boot issues + an occasionally disappearing 3rd drive (RAID0 on SATA1 & 2) ... 120GB Maxtor SATA. Similiar to some of the problems above.

Hey, quick question. What tool are you guys using to flash the BIOS on the A8N-SLI? They don't seem to have this particular model's flash util covered on their website.

-- oh, and EastLuna[DOT]com has 11 A8n-SLIs in stock (for some reason the board here won't let me post a URL?)
