Or <ALT+F2> as it boots with the BIOS on a floppy in the drive.

Anyone else had any issues with Maxtor drives and this board? I have a 120GB SATA Maxtor (6Y120M0) hooked up standalone on NV SATA3, and it keeps disappearing and generally makes my system very unstable (cold boot issues, Windows very unstable). Is this a problem for anyone else?

I'm using 2X160GB version of the same maxtor drive, through the Nv SATA (not raid) -to be honest, with no issues at all - plugged into 1 and 2.

Are you running them in Raid? And if not what did you have to do in the bios so it will recognize one of HD as boot drive in sata 1 ? Hope this makes sense, any help would be great, get my video cards monday just have to drop them in ( I hope )....

Hehe just get them lasered - thats what I did I may or may not raid at some time in the future. The main reason I didn't are:
1) Limited proof of much actual benefit against risk.
2) I'm running a USB floppy, I couldn't get the board to recognise it as A: - I just wanted to get up and running.
3) I'm gonna dual boot linux at some point, and when I did this before it had issues with my raid set up!
Sorry, I suppose thats not much help really!

I am sure it's a matter of a BIOS revision.

As a temporary workaround I have hooked it up to the SiL3114 controller JBOD, and it's working fine. So definitely not a drive issue - something about the NV native implementation of SATA/RAID and the Maxtor drive.

If these motherboard manufacturers would all start using RAID 5, then there would be some definite improvement. This RAID 0+1 is B***S*** in my humble opinion. Some of these new batches of nforce are using it. All my servers and EMC Clariion SAN use RAID5 and I only use 1 when I don't have 3 or more drives or space and NEVER 0.

Has anyone given this "Silicon Image 3114R RAID controller: - 4 x Serial ATA with RAID0, 1, 0+1, and RAID5" on the A8N-SLI Deluxe a thorough workout yet using RAID 5?

Well I believe the X700 is only available as a Pcie card, as such any single Pcie card should work for you till you get the money together!

Also I have cold boot issues + an occasionally disappearing 3rd drive (RAID0 on SATA1 & 2) ... 120GB Maxtor SATA. Similiar to some of the problems above.
The 1003.005 BIOS doesn't adjust the HTT multiplier. This means that you get a HTT speed of 1,160MHz when you overclock the CPU to 232MHz. Even if you set it to 4X in the BIOS, it is still at 5X, so you have to adjust the speed and the HTT multiplier using nTune after having booted.
I am using the 1003.005 BIOS and boot at 230MHz. The first thing I do is to set the HTT at 4X. Then my system is perfectly stable

Doesn't work like that for me with this bios.. I jusr adjust it to what I want (X3 or X4) in the bios and it sticks....
