so u think i should buy an sli capable board and get a pci-e card for now and wait till ATI's version of sli comes out and change because i dont really want to go w/nvidia unless its the best choice overall. I know its better now but since ATI is coming out w/ their version later im not sure what to do. My plan was to wait till pci-e came out and upgrade but now this sli sh** is ruining my plans lol sorry im just not sure what to do and btw i am glad their are such helpful people on this site it really helps any ideas/suggestions will help

Thought I'd add my 2 cents since you've been struggling with this decision.

1. Do you really need the power of 2 SLI connected video cards?

2. Intel flavors are already available that can do SLI such as a Supermicro that does 4X in the second PCI Express slot, but I believe it is generally agreed that 8X in the first slot and 8X for the second card is a better solution.

3. You asked if PCI Express will be changing and that is exactly where it will be changing - in the speeds available to each slot. As you may note now, most PCI Express boards now have 1 16X slot and the rest are 1X.

My 2 cents, SLI doesn't get my attention, but PCI Express does, because all cards that fit in the new slots will get the increased bandwidth. I also wanted a AMD board with PCI Express a month or 2 ago and I'm still waiting for some choices to arrive. As far as I've seen, the MSI with the ATI chipset is the only one to hit the shelves and I'm not even sure about that. SOooo.... I have this MSI Neo2 Platinum while waiting . . . Good news for you is several boards should be hitting the shelves any day now, but may be up to a another month away. Hope that helps. I'm going to upgrade my video and probably just keep this mobo and get one of these AGP X800's or 6800GT's also hitting the shelves, since prices should be dropping on them soon as the 850's just came out. Anand's review is a nice comparison and the new 800 XL looks sweet, but gotta still see if they have an AGP version. (I read the review at 3am).

BTW, a number of resellers now have the A8N-SLI Deluxe listed. Some promise they'll have them in stock next week. Prices are in the $289-299 range.

I've ordered one for £120 - they supposedly will have it for the 6th. £120 Seems to be the price point at a variety of places in the UK. Also seen a standard version listed for £100. Hopefully you should see some movement in those prices - they started at £187 over here!

One reseller (ZipZoomFly) has the board listed for $225. Mid-December ETA.

That $225 sounds much more reasonable. $300 for mobo however wonderful it might be is just getting rediculous. But than, the offset comes from PCIE nvidia cards... price gouging already... sigh.
