While the driver says it is for cool and quiet, some people have reported that installing the driver helped solve some other issues. So, even if you don't use cool and quiet(I don't), it may be a good idea to install the driver anyway(I do)!

What's your experiences and thoughts as it relates to the OB sound? If I build a sys using the ASUS Premium board, I would prefer not to buy an Audigy II or similar. I also do not want to cannabllize my current rig.

I am no audiophile, and I think the sound in my Rio Carbon is goood enough. I am just concerned about gaming hits.

TIA

Jim

See post #784 of this thread I am not sure what caused the huge framerate difference. I just know how my FPS is where it should be now with the X-Fi.

In general: on board sound will see you taking performance hits.. If you you care about frame rates (as I suspect you do with BF2) I would suggest upgrading to a soundcard...

As far as sound quality goes: if you are not an audiophile I suppose it doesn't matter too much these days since onboard audio has digital output and such.

Damn if only I could get it to boot from my XP sp2 disk i have.

LOL, Thanks. How is the new card doing and which version did you get?

ASUS is supposed to be coming out with a newer version of the A8N SLI board:

That link shows nothing. Just a blank Asus page.

Did you slipstream your SP2 disk? I made one awhile back by following some instructions (found somewhere on this forum) and it's been working fine. Maybe you didn't do it correctly?
