Ranger, I didn't realize/notice you've also switched to the Premium. How's yours working out (other than the problem currently posted)? I just learned something. My system has been running great lately, but every once awhile, BSOD about NVStrap (or something with the NV) so I disabled the onboard audio and insert a PCI sound card and the problem has gone completely since. For anyone out there who's still having BSOD issue, you may want to disable the onboard sound and use a PCI soundcard and see if it helps with yours. It sure did help on mine.

Yup I bought the Premium as I was waiting for my case to arrive. Now problems so far since I got it up and running, I have everything disabled in BIOS that I don't use (si controller, onboard audio, parralell, serial, game port, midi port, etc.) so I don't think I will run into the BSOD problem. I know you've been running yours for a while, anything else I should know? Actually come to think of it I am having one problem, my internet connection is extremely slow on both the nvidia and marvell controllers. It's definitely not my modem or router, cause my other computers connected to the network run just fine. But with this it's really slow sometimes, and I'll often have to reload pages, like the connection is turning on and off non-stop...

EDIT: Bah looks like it was one of the router ports, strange...

Yeah, I also notice the slow internet connectivity at times. It seems to just craw even though it's a cable modem/service. I haven't tried the Marvel port yet. Been using just the Nvidia port since got it. Maybe I need to try the Marvel port and see if it makes any difference.

Did you install the Nvidia firewall? I did not install it. I haven't had any slowdowns so far. I'm not running raid.

I agree. Nvidia's firewall gave me slowdowns as well. I got rid of it within 10mins...

Okay... another problem.

Now my mouse stops reponding completely from time to time... Only unplugging and plugging it into a USB port will make it start reponding again..

Anyone else had this problem. I'm running the latest setpoint software (which I probably shouldn't huh)...

>> after a while it starts responding again... It just completely locks up for a minute or so.. And that is when the CPU is used heavily...

Setpoint? You use the MX1000? I don't know what it is about Logitech software, but I never end up installing it, after many bad experiences with the keyboard software for the MX DUO. I have the MX1000 and I just use the windows drivers, it works fine. Plus Setpoint always has stuff running in the background.

Anyways one problem that I have noticed so far, something I noticed when I was on the Deluxe board, but is even more apparent since I switched to the Premium is there is some sort of conflict with SLI and standby. For those of you whose computers go into standby mode after 20 minutes of idle time (which is default setting of windows), after waking it up sometimes it will crash when it's doing an operation like closing, or opening a program. This would happen occaisionally when I was using the Deluxe board, but with the Premium I notice it more. One thing I was ecstatic about was on the Deluxe board when SLI was enabled this one game I play (Subspace Continuum, a very old online game), would always freeze and crash when entering cause I guess the game is so old, that it has a conflict with SLI, so I would have to disable and run single card mode. Well now with the Premium, I could finally leave my computer with SLI enabled full time, as the game works now with it. But once my computer goes into standby, and I wake it up and try to play the game any time after that it will crash just like it used to when I was on the Deluxe board.

Hmm... the problems seemed to have dissapeared when changing back memory timings from 1T to 2T...

And I did change a setting in setpoint.... so it is probably that.

BTW: I'm no fan of this crap software either but I installed it when I was having so many problems and wanted to find out if it could possibly help.

I think I'll get rid of it now.

I can't speak for that particular line of Mushkin memory, but it's playing nicely with my Mushkin Extreme Performance PC4000 (2 x 1GH) memory.

The board's a little quirky, though ... especially when it comes to overclocking.

I'm still debating whether to keep mine.

I use the OCZ Platinum 2GB kit (2-3-2-8) timings, it will do those timings up to 430 Mhz (215FSB). Anything above that requires 2t command rate. All @ 2.7 volts.

Trouble with Sound

Just got my A8N Premium running. I installed the realtek alc850 sound drivers from the CD and then the latest nvidia chipset drivers and bios (1007) from ASUS web site including the IDE driver.

At some point the left sound stopped working. No reboots have fixed this nor a complete power down. I'm using headphones at the moment plugged into the pale green connector at the back. I can't say for sure when the left sound stopped working and maybe it never worked.

I turned on

Any ideas?

I do have an old spare OEM Turtle Beach Montego II PCI card....

I have the cool and quiet enabled plus the software

Hi,
I was told that the 1007 from Asus is no good yet?
I would just wait until a better one appears
