| Since the NB is passive cooled and has heat pipes, does anybody know if there are problems with running this MB in a horizontal config? I want to investigate using it in an htpc case. |

| it shouldnt affect it much as airflow doesnt generally yeild to gravity. As far as the heat pipes go, they work in allmost any orientation these days

| The guys at XS don't seem to think the heat pipe would work properly in an BTX case {upside down}. Thinking about it does sound logical that the steam would rise in the wrong direction.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought that heatpipes had allow for cooling condensation at particular area. Actually the truth is I don't know much about the subject, but I thought gravity was an important consideration for heatpipes. BTW, what kind of glider pilot are you? I catch airtime strapped to a paraglider. | |

| Just confirming what others have said, adding one more problem to the mix, and doing a tiny rant ... 1. No matter how I adjust vCore for my X2-4400 1.39 seems to be the lowest it will go (BIOS 703) 2. I've tried fooling around with the mem dividers (thanks Blue for steering me right over at Xtreme) and it always seems to go back to 1:1. 3. I'm having some nVraid set-up problems that I think point to a couple of BIOS bugs... too complicated to go into detail here but I have a lengthy description over at pcper... Not a huge issue since I only want to stripe 2 spare HDs--not the OS HD, but annoying. What the fuddle-duddle (Canadian expression, eh?) is ASUS doing posting 2 beta BIOSes without a shred of documentation? no read.me, nothing??? I suppose it's slightly better than 2 years ago when they didn't post them in the regular site and we used to have to go look through the ASUS Germany ftp site just to find them...who knows? maybe they actualy fix something useful but I ain't about to mess with them just to add a whole new set of problems.../endrant Otherwise... I love the rock-steady voltage reg of the power rails in this mobo...you have to look at the hundreth digit to see any fluctuations at all and then only once every couple of hours. And it does seem to run cool... don't be mislead by the temps in PCprobe II, which are on the high side for the board... put a thermometer in the case or even just put your hand near the chipset while on full load...I think I'm running hotter than it is

| Yea I have several digi nurse probes and have them stuck all over the board and like always Temps are reported by software hotter than they actually are, I'm used to that so it don't bother me that much. The things I severely dislike about this board is how it recovers from failed OC/mem timing settings, and the lack of properly working voltage control. Plain and simple Asus needs to fix the vcore, I call it cheating to over volt "STOCK" vcore by 0.062 I will say it can run it's max 400htt as long as you don't stress your memory and keep it under 280Mhz. The board is pretty easy to setup and run 280htt 1:1 with several different types and brands of memory, but from 280htt and above to run 1:1 I have to fight the board, one mem setting to high results in having to power down and power back up several times until the AI recovery kicks in and lets the darn board POST's and lets me back in the BIOS. All in all "IMO" it's a nice board for gamers andall but the guys that benchmark then the DFI is probably more suited for them.

| FB FYI I think I finley got it I've tried several times now with the 703 BIOS and choosing 1.2875 vcore gives me a measured 1.356 at the MOSFETs with the over volt thing "disabled".

| Your rails look fine. I have only checked my rails with a DMM havent even thought about looking at PC Probe or BIOS reporting.
