I've disabled all unused ports such as Game, 1394, etc etc with no problems at all...you sure it's the Game port causing the issue?

I also have the gameport disabled with the 1394/parallel port options and have not had any issues.

Unhappy Old issue...any NEW solutions?!?!?!?

Howdy all,

I have a8n32-sli deluxe 1.01/amd x2 4800+/2gb corsair/maxtor IDE HD/2 34 GB Raptors on Sata 1/2. BIOS 1103. Using Win XP home (no SP). Nforce4 AMD/Intel X16 6.85.

Problem: Can't complete windows install with nvidia RAID enabled. Absolutely no probs if RAID is disabled. I created the RAID install floppy using both the ASUS software CD that came with motherboard and the nForce 6.85 drivers from nVidia...same problem. I tried my win XP home with SP2 slipstreamed and it made no difference. I hit F6 on initial win install to load BOTH nvidia RAID drivers. Installation goes fine until first reboot after install files are loaded on HD. I get either a lock or reboot before windows finishes loading and then the 'windows did not shut down properly' screen upon reboot.

I have read about others having similar probs but have not found a workable solution yet. HAS ANYONE DISCOVERED THE ROOT CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM??

I tried installing XP onto the IDE drive without the RAID enabled and this worked perfectly. After installing I enabled the RAID and XP detected it and asked for drivers (RAID class storage device, I believe). I pointed to the floppy and it installed drivers properly. Viola...I had a usable RAID. Problem is I would like to install XP to the RAID drives so I need them enabled from the start.

Please . I know this has been asked before (some time ago) but I want to hear if anyone has discovered a ROOT CAUSE and/or definite fix.

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm using the sata raid drivers that came with the 6.66 Nvidia chipset files. The newer ones have not worked for me yet. You might want to try to download the older 6.66 Nvidia chipset files from Nvidia's website and copy the sata raid files to a floppy diskette to use for your raid install.

*in order to have access to and manually change some of the settings you need to get rid of the default "Auto" setting in a few of the listings

Thanks for the advice VSEKH but no luck there...I was so hopefull too. Gunna try installing with default BIOS settings using 5.52 sata raid and then 5.34.

I wonder if my problem is that I am installing XP to ide drive and not the RAID i am creating?!?! Doubt if that should matter...I still should be able to configure RAID during install. Maybe I will try disabling IDE drive and installing to RAID just to see. Had no probs with installing to IDE and configuring RAID during install on my old IC7-max board using these drives. Hrmph.

Back to trial and error....

Jeff

EDIT...still no luck after doing the above. Maybe nLite XP/SP2 installation CD with integrated RAID drivers or as suggested in the MediaShield (RAID chip maker) user's guide. Arggghhhh....

You should be able to run the memory at DDR400 speed. Set the ram voltage to 2.8V. Try setting the command rate to 1T initially, then change it to 2T if you run into any problems. Try disabling legacy USB in the bios before running memtest.

if its constantly failing Memtest then the memory is most probably bad...try the Memtest for Windows version and see if you get any errors (the Windows version puts more stress on the system as it is running in Windows and you can use the system for other tasks while it is running)...also try setting the DDR vCore to 2.7...you could also try loosening up your timings

the 3DMark tests are mainly for testing video card stability so just because it passes those tests does not mean that your memory is good or bad...Memtest is the best way to check your memory stability...

Memtest Windows version
