The ram is going to be a bit of hit or miss with the a8v. I had good results with OCZ 3700EB and also Crucial Balistic 4000's. Also I have better luck running a siig pci sata controller card instead of onboard in general.

I do have an Asus A8V Deluxe Rev 1.02 and I got the locks going by installing bigtoe's 1005.021 bios (found out of course by reading this thread).

My system currently has a A64 3800+ (though reading this thread makes me wish I had the FX-53) and am using OCZ Premier PC3200 DDR400 2.5-3-3-7 2x512 memory.

I was wondering if the memory I had was a good choice for my system especially looking down the road if I ended up upgrading to an FX-55. I haven't been able to OC the 3800 much cause of the locked multiplier but I just wanted to make sure I was putting together the best system I could. I still have a hard time understanding memory timings and and ratings and what would be best for my system and most compatible with the A8V.

Thanks for any suggestions you can make!
If you want to overclock, you will want to get some more RAM. These AMD rigs shine when they get the maximum memory bandwidth.

SuperPi is often used to test the speed and stability of a system. The 32M iteration (you'll see it in one of the drop-down menus) will really test whether you're system is stable or not.

I believe there's a beta BIOS for the MSI board that fixes the temp issue. If you check around, you might be able to find it.

New BIOS for the A8V: 1007. I think this BIOS only applies to those with the Rev.2 board.

Blue078, do you have T1 with the ballistix @ 260 ht ?
I only ask because I need it below 240 to get T1 without errrors, and as I can't find crucials spec for T rating @ 500ddr, I don't know if its my board or memory (or cpu).
I could try the 1007 bios, but TBH as everythings stable and sweet, I am loathed to intefere unless there is a chance it might fix this issue.

Yes Vogon I runing 1t at 260htt

262 cas2.5-3-3-7-1t 2.85vdimm

For some reason my MSI K8N NEO2 dosnt like cas3 ?

Crucial dosnt realy advertise any rated timing other than cas2.5 @ DDR500
{at least not back when I bought mine}
But if you call tech support they will tell you cas2.5-4-4-8 1t at DDR500 on 2.8v

Well, I'm back from Southern California with my modded VapoChill LS. Have not had a chance to test it yet. The benching session in Socal was a flop. Couldn't get either the Asus or Gigabyte boards to work right. But I met some really nice folks in the benching community and I got the memory mod done on my X800XT. Hopefully I'll have some results to report in about a week.
