I'm not sure which BIOS is the best. But you can find the latest ones using this link.

I really think that since you do not overclock that you could go for any bios you like really , not the oldest ones ofcourse.. Go to tha place that Sierra mentions and pick you choose.

As you can see, I would need a safest and nicest version of bios, just to get this rig work fine and be dependable. Also, any issues with 2 gigs of RAM? - I heard that it should be ... singlesided ... to work fine, or what?

thx in advance!
you should be fine with the shipped BIOS. It will be probabaly 1014 or 1010.

mm I think you want to buy the A8V due to the fact it still has an AGP slot ? You will need Bios 1014 mate for the DLX model, I'v run the same CPU on that motherboard and it was rock stable at stock settings. Also use the Promise controller for the S-ATA ( in case you opt for the DLx version) it seemed a bit faster and more responsive then the Via S-ATAcontroller )
Regarding the ram Single sided ain't necessary , if you can grab it it's okay ( I know MDT has some single sided 1 gig modules but hey are more expensive than the double sided ones) The ram should work fine , just make sure when you boot the first time you put one dimm in the 3rd slot boot up , set the correct ram timings, voltages,... and then you add the 2nd dimm. It might not boot with 2 dimms in it !! and that you have a floppy ready with the S-ATA drivers on it to install Windows.
Good luck let us know how it runs. Greetz from Belgium

Weird restart problem

My A8V Deluxe rev 2 with an FX55 and Bios 1008.003 has just developed an odd problem - the restart command has stopped working. The computer shuts down, screen goes blank, computer remains powered up but fails to restart. Pressing the reset button does begin the restart, system posts then gives error message that overclocking has failed (system NOT overclocked at all). At that point I F1 into BIOS, then <escape> and <return> to continue without saving changes and the computer then goes into Windows normally and functions perfectly. ( I have had similar system behaviour in the past in a normal bootup but ONLY when I powered up my monitor at the same time as the POST process was running). I should note that this restart problem emerged after a normal hard boot that seemed to restore the BIOS to default settings for some unknown reason. I tried a system restore point from prior to this problem showing up, no help there. EDIT: I just found that this behaviour is now happening from a cold boot as well - I need to hit the reset key and then get the error message and go through the BIOS to get a startup even though I am making no changes in the BIOS, and the BIOS settings look to be saved properly.

My apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere- I searched on restart in this thread and found nothing, and I don't have time to wade through 170 pages of posts!

I have just tried a CMOS clear (remove battery etc) with no effect (except that on first reboot it actually got to the overclock error message without needing to hit the reset key - now it is back to requiring a hard reset to get the error message.)

Any other ideas? Battery in MB is only about 16 months old....

Help appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Time to update to 109 Bios. I have had that problem with all Bios until I went to #109 about 9 months ago, everything has worked fine since.
Give it or a newer one a try.

Tedgram - many thanks!

Your suggestion did the trick. I used the incredibly user-friendly Asus Update software to upgrade to 1014 and now everything is great. The box even seems to boot faster now.

If you tend to go Oc'ing and if you don't have any of the latest CPu's ( meaning X2, San Diego , Venice cores) stick with 1009 bios it's the most stable and best for Oc'ing for this VIA based Asus motherboard. Correct voltages, ram dividers,...

i think that was a mistake. the removed the final title from their site, but it was still left on the german site. i think it was just a mistake. anyway, it was the same as 1005.002 anyway. i have no idea what they are doing.
