Can these be installed without doing a fresh OS installation before hand?

Probably better to do a fresh install. But I've updated chipset drivers before with no problems. I would back up your data just in case.

Every time I powered down {not warm boot} when I'd boot back up, at the desk top I would be greeted by
"System Has Recovered From A Serious Err"
some times one click would get rid if it some times their would be 5 or 6 one right after the other.....Argggg... M$ reports said a device driver was causeing the problem..but which friggen one ???

it hasnt happened {yet} after the 4.53's, I even powered down whent I went to the store, on reboot it did'nt appear ..

A question for sierra....or anyone....

I have spent the best part of the day reviewing this thread and all I have to say is OH MY!!!! I thought I needed a girlfriend. J/K. I have a very similiar system to yours and I am looking to get it going at an extreme speed. I am running the Vapochill XE so heat should not be a problem. I also have an Exos system hooked up to my X800 pro. Now comes the good stuff......

I have been running P4 for quite some time and the AMD world is fairly new to me. I need to know how to start overclocking this beeee-yacht-ch. hehe. Here's the specs:

Vapochill XE (connected to processor)
Koolance Exos (connected to X800 Pro)
Athlon 64 FX-53 (bios .021)
Asus A8V revision 1.02
Corsair PC4400 (soon to be OCZ 3700EB)
Sapphire X800 Pro (soon to be X800 XT)
Promise TX-4 (raid 0)
4-Western Digital Raptors (in Raid 0)
Audigy 2 ZS
dvd roms, burners, ide drives, floppy bla bla

Give me the scoop mang!!! It would be greatly appreciated.

BTW-Yes, I like to stay currnet on my wares...Now if I could just get a clue on how to effectively run this thing like a raped-ape!!!

Hi carnage. Unlike Intel, A64's have multipliers which give you many more options. The first thing I always do is look for the ceiling on the RAM. Once you know how fast your memory can run, you'll get a better idea of how high you'll be able to overclock the CPU.

Overclocking is largely a matter of money, luck, hardware and cooling. None of those things require any skill. Benchmarking (if you're into that) on the other hand requires skill and patience if you want to do it well.

SB, so to start you bring the multiplier for the CPU down and then bump the FSB up until you hit the limit of your RAM right?

Is it your opinion that most FX53's can do 2,600 on air? Or should they need watercooling for the 200mhz bump?

Yes, start with a low multi. Some people will go as low as 4 or 5. See how high you can raise HTT. People with single-channel boards (754) have it easier. They usually can get HTT much higher. Getting high HTT on a dual-channel (939) mobo is a little tougher, but not impossible.

An FX53 should be able to do 2600MHz on air. 2700 would be tough. Anything above 2750 requires more than air or water cooling.

Excuse this one last newb question, but FSB and HTT are basically coupled together right? IOW, if I raise FSB I am also raising HTT right?
