Just about the samething, here with the AV8 r1.1. I can run 280 with a ratio and all seems to be OK. But stability at 285 and above just dont seem to get along

Well, I'm bored so I just grabbed a MSI K8N NEO2 from newegg, I really don't have high expectations but what the hell, you only live once. If it sucks for overclcoking or if I like my A8V better, then I'll stick it in a new box I'm putting in my Bedroom and mate it with a stock 3500+ or something.

I was gonna just hold out for the DFI NF3 (and I'll still try one of those I'm sure) but it may be another month before they actually hit retail. The NF3 Ultra is supposed to provide a boost in some apps if you are running it with a Geforce 6800, we'll see about that .

If it sucks, I'll be sure to let you know. lol. I'll be the guinea pig for this one guys, just sit tight!

I just built my new system a few days ago with an A8V, and I seem to have a weird issue.

When I have two drives plugged in to southbridge's IDE port, on the same channel, (Primary master/slave) the computer refuses to boot and tells me "Disk Read Error".

However, I tried booting to WinPE off a CD, and I could access both drives and read files off them with no problem. It's just that I can't boot!

Now, I took one drive off that channel, and put it on the Promise RAID Channel... the computer boots and operates flawlessly!

Does anybody have this problem where you can only boot with only one drive attached to the IDE channel?

(The motherboard revision is 1.02, running the latest 1006 BIOS)

you sure you have the drive configuration and boot priority set right in the bios for that ide channel?

yea, boot priority was all set up, I even tried using another brand drive (a WD800JB) in place of the 2nd drive, and changing jumpers to cable select, yet it wouldn't work

On the WD drive if it's the only drive on the cable try SB's suggestion from the SK8V thread, and remove the drive jumper compleatly.

Been a long time since I ran a WD drive but I do remember haveing trouble with it being the sole HDD and as Primary Master, I had to compleatly remove the jumper, then it all worked fine

Yes, remove the jumper. WD are the only drives I use.

Hi Blue. I moved to the 12 multi. 250X12 at the moment. If I could run 255X12 or even 270X11, all hell would break loose. lol. With a little more voltage, this system would be a world-beater.

You know I'm starting to think the on die mem controler on the 3500+ is a dud.

If the memory was the problem then why can it run 250-c2.5-3-3-8-1t with a 8x or 9x multi ??? It shold give me problems at 250mhz regaurdless right?

This 3500+ gives no problems @ 2600Mhz as long as the ratio is 6:5
but at 1:1 it boils down to this.

Stability is based on 30mins of 3D Game Play with out issue,
memory timings are cas2.5-3-3-8-1t vdimm is maxed @2.8
vcore at 1.75 have set as high as 1.8 {no change in stability}
250x8x1:1 =stable {2000mhz}
250x9x1:1 =stable {2250Mhz}
250x10x1:1 =unstable {2500Mhz}
250x10x6:5 =stable

Oh and let me throw this into the mix
230x11x1:1 =unstable {2530Mhz} @6:5 =stable
235x11x1:1 =unstable {2585Mhz} @6:5 =stable
237x11x1:1 =unstable {2600Mhz} @6:5 =stable

In you guys opinion, is this memory issue? or memcontroller issue ?

Thanks for your time

Could be the memory controller. But because you can run 250X10 6:5 stable but not 1:1, then it may be the RAM.

OK I agree in part with that logic But why is 250x9 stable ? is not the memory still runing 250Mhz ?

Man it's got me bugged, I thought it was the memory for sure, but after the second pair of Ballistix acting the exact same way, it's makeing me lean to the memcontroller.

Perhaps this is why it's branded as a lowly 3500+ and not an FX {didnt make the cut}

Well, you have to consider the limits of the CPU. If you leave RAM at 250 and keep increasing the multiplier, eventually you're going to run out of steam. It may have something to do with the chipset as well.
