What about BIOS ?? I'm thinking the mobo's BIOS could also influence this.

Don't know about the BIOS. Have you experimented with CodeRed's tweaker?

Try tighting the last three settings on the first row. See if that helps any.

Write Recovery Time (Twr) = 2
Write to Read Delay (Twtr) = 1
Read to Write Delay (Trtw) = 1

I have a A8V that has been working great, but tonight while browsing some forums the screen went black and I could not get anything. The power was still on as the fans were running but all I could get was a black screen. I rebooted and a message flashed by so fast I could not make it all out. I think it said something about failing overclocking. I have not overclocked my cpu or graphics card or memory, nothing.

It did boot up fine after the message and is running normal now. Any idea what just happened?

Thanks,
Paul

Hey Xgman!

So what's the scoop on the 2.0 revision board? Is it all that or just another 1.02 in disguise?

Man it's got me bugged, I thought it was the memory for sure, but after the second pair of Ballistix acting the exact same way, it's makeing me lean to the memcontroller.

Perhaps this is why it's branded as a lowly 3500+ and not an FX {didnt make the cut}

then again, it could be the MB.

Worse, it was a DOA.

A replacement coming Monday.

Keeping a keen eye on the DFI 939 releases. They will eventually have both a via and NF3 939 solution.

Well that stinks xg. Sorry to hear it. Maybe the next will be the one.

I have a MSI NEO2 on the way, I figured I would try that while I RMA my A8V for a r2.0. By the time I get my A8V back, I should know if I want to keep the Neo2 in with my FX53 or not. If not, I'll sell it or move it to another box and stick my A8V back in. At least with the A8V I'm 100% stable, even if it isn't quite perfect.

I haven't ventured from Asus for my personal system in years, so I don't know if I'm going to like MSI or not. I've read a lot about them being flakey. I really have low expectatons, but who knows, maybe it will be alright.

Anyway, good luck with the replacement and yes, maybe DFI will bring the total solution.

popcorn

that sounds like a good idea, rma'ing the rev 1.xx board. i am also buying time until the dfi board comes out....

what reason are you going to give asus for the rma. are you sure you won't just get back someone elses refirb 1.xx board and not a 2.xx. when i sent my abit ic-7g after it died i ended up getting a refurb that didn't oc as much and had horrible voltage regulation problems (probably the reason it was returned the first time).....

I'm going to give them the facts.

My board gets flakey when I use a vdimm higher than 2.7v. I can run it stock and set the vdimm to 2.8v and it won't boot. So it's a legit bug because some others have had flakey voltage and others (like sierra) have not. And since we're using the same Ram and my ram is good, that leaves the board.

Up until now, I wasn't keen on RMAing because a) The r2.0 A8V wasn't out and I didn't want to pull everything apart just to put another r1.xx back in & b) I didn't want to be down while I RMAed the A8V. Afterall, my board is 100% at my present settings (2639 MHz, 12x220, 3-2-2-10 @ 2.7v)

So the MSI board gives me the option to try another board that Wes @ Anandtech likes and to not have to be down while I await the replacement.

guess its good you have a bug....mine has been pretty stable but i am running pretty conservative using spd timings on the memory. my board is running ok but even at fsb 240 i can't tighten any of the memory timings without error in memtrest. i know my system has more potential. if i like the msi, think i'll just take the loss and ebay the asus instead of chancing getting another rev 1.xx board back. when i talked to asus they said after shipping, time it will take almost a month to get my board back.....by then rev. 2.something and the dfi board will be out.

also remember reading somewhere that nvidia has some optimizations that apply to when you use their video cards and the nforce chipsets....
