Funny you mention this. I am discovering that although I can now get a desktop with this kingston RAM the machine is very inconsistent. Prime can sometimes run for an hour at 240HTT 3-4-4-8. Sometimes if I reboot it and try again it runs for 5 minutes and dies. I tried a little extra vDIMM and that didn't help.

So although it appears to like this kingston memory better than the mushkin bh5 it is still not working properly.

Any suggestions guys? I'm tempted to put my Abit AV8 back in and try again except this time w/the kingston. If this MSI motherboard is just being picky I'm starting to get fed up with it.

Try this in the NEO2 Rip just for the heck of it.

In the BIOS under the Cell minue
set cmd rate to 1
set Aggressive timings to dissable
set vdimm to 2.8v

those kingstons use Hynix mem chips, and we all know Hynix loves the volties, and disslikes tight timings.

cmd rate was already at 1T, aggressive set to disable also set that way. I tried 2.7v but that didn't help. I'll try 2.8v when I get off of work today.

Thanks for your help guys, you've been (and continue to be) excellent resources and I appreciate it. Even if I have to give up on this o/c thing eventually at least we gave it the 'ole college try right?

Still thinking of putting that abit back in there and see how it handles this kingston and higher htt...

I'd hate to have to spend $300 on memory. This mushkin was over that much when I bought it. I think I'd rather dump this board then spend big bucks on more RAM when I shouldn't have to.

Run windiag.exe AND memtest86.exe one stick at a time and see which one errors at what speed first. It's the only way to be sure. They are both free programs. Do a google search and run them form a bootable floppy disk in dos.

Does Mushkin have a Camera set up on your monitor? We promise we won't tell. Seriously, don't worry about that.

Right now I'm doing some testing, but I have a windows desktop at 240fsb, multi 10, x4 HTT. 3-4-4-8-1T, 2.6v. I am trying to run prime just now, we'll see how it does. If it passes that would clearly prove that my mushkin is either a bad batch -OR- this board doesn't play nice with it.

If all goes well I may try for 250x10 eventually.

Now I need to test my mushkin in another system.

I hate to see you spend more $, but either OCZ 3700EB or Crucial Balistic 4000's would probably serve you much better.

I just got this board, with the 3500+ Athlon 64. I also got the corsair twinx 1024 -4000 memory, labeled:
1GB 2 x 512MB XMS4000, 500MHz, 64Mx64, non-ECC, 184 Pin DDR, unbuffered, SPD (3-4-4-8), 32Mx8 DRAMs

All the other equipment I will carry over from my other computer:

2 SATA Hard drives (seagate 120gig and 160gig, respectively, OS installed on the 120gig)

Pioneer DVD drive connected as primary master on the primary IDE port
Iomega Zip250 installed as primary master on the secondary IDE port.

Plextor 12/10/32S scsi CDRW hooked up to an adaptec 2940 controller card

ATI Radeon 9700pro
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX

Anyone see any problems with this config?

I'll toy around with the kingston a little while longer, try a 2.8vdimm. If that doesn't take care of it though then what ought I do next guys?

Tell you what... I'm willing to try once more with a different set of RAM if this kingston won't do the trick. So OCZ PC3700EB or the Balistix PC4000 are the best options then? Which of those two should I try?

If another set of RAM doesn't work out then I guess I'll have to give up at that point. I've got a lot of patience but it's finally starting to wear a bit thin.

Everything looks fine. The most important component, as you'll soon find out, is memory. The Corsair PC4000 should give you decent RAM speed.
