Hmmm, not sure what the problem might be. I'll have to think about it.

johnrr6 - I would use the Nvidia LAN. It's generally faster. The reason for dual LAN is that you can connect one to another computer and create an internal network, if you so choose. I've never found CPU utilization to be an issue. If it's a concern for you, you might be better off using a NIC.

Wouldn't a router/switch do the same job? So, I guess this is made for people w/o a router/switch, correct? For w/o router/switch use, I was thinking one port connect to the broadband modem for outside (internet) connection, then other port goes to another PC, so the other PC can access the resources of the first PC and also connect to the internet. In this way, the first PC would act more like a router/switch to the connecting PC, correct?

Huh? I thought that was what I just said. Sorry, I'm still at work and am only half paying attention. The dual LAN can also be used for a gaming set-up. Correct me if I'm wrong, Blue.

Damn, this would have been the nail in the coffin a week ago. Wish I'd have seen this, I thought I'd cover ALL the bases with an Asus board. I hope future BIOS upgrades narrow the gap, after all, they are using the same NVIDIA chipset aren't they? Anyone want to speculate on whether a reinstall of XP and my apps would be necessary if I switch out the MB? (same chipset?)

The Ultra-D uses a slightly different chipset than the SLI-DR. Also, the Ultra-D does not have the Silicon Image controller like the SLI-DR.

There's really only one way to find out if your hard drive's OS will work with a new motherboard, and that's to plug it in. My guess is that it will work.

PC Perspective has a review of the SLI-DR board. See News and Announcements section for link.

Hexus has a side-by-side comparison of the SLI-DR and the A8N-SLI. Link

"Once or twice I've been tempted to write that the DFI is the best enthusiast mainboard ever created, and in many respects it is, giving you the platform for some serious out-of-spec running, at high stability. The power circuitry has been designed with that in mind, giving you that easy high dHTT, those large voltage ranges, which paired with the plethora of options for adjusting the memory subsystem will have many frothing at the mouth. SLI works fine as expected and in terms of testing with the latest BIOS release never put a foot wrong. It also has a flexible PCI Express slot configuration that can free up plentiful bandwidth to the non-PEG16X slots in non-SLI mode."

Well, I guess I'll order up an Ultra-D from Newegg and hope for the best. I WILL plan on modding the board to support SLI, and I'll just have to use my Asus bridge to make it functional. I currently have 1 6800 GT, but will add another someday...

What a disappointing night for me. I finally got everything up and running with my Ultra-D properly so I decided to bench 2001... I'm running 217 bios and I was able to get my cpu clocks up to around where my Neo2 was at 3350mhz. Ram was the same at 1.5-2-2-5.

My voltmodded X850XT is a disappointment and was only able to do 720/650 at -55C... even at that it was higher video clocks than my old X800XT PE on water at 675/635 on my Neo2. I thought I would at least be able to break 40k like I did with my Neo2 setup but my scores were totally crap and I could not come close....

I've come to the conclusion that I don't know what I'm doing on this DFI...

DFI Ultra-D 217 FX-55 @ 3345mhz Vapo 2x256 Mushkin BH-5 1.5-2-2-5 1T X850XT @ 720/650 R507 Prommy

Neo2 1.3b6 FX-55 @ 3353mhz Vapo 2x256 Mushkin BH-5 1.5-2-2-5 1T X800XT PE @ 675/635 Koolance watercooling

CL: Neo2 581 DFI 564
CH: Neo2 179 DFI 174
DL: Neo2 750 DFI 734
DH: Neo2 392 DFI 371
LL: Neo2 488 DFI 465
LH: Neo2 222 DFI 209
N: Neo2 309 DFI 294

Both video cards were using Cat 4.12 drivers.... on High Performance.... so what the heck am I doing wrong on this DFI???

Invested a lot of money in this setup only to get slower.... sorry frustrated right now!!

Interesting results, gocchin. Try using 12 multi and higher RAM speed. CPU speed won't be as good, but the memory clocks may make up for it. I think I got around 40K with CPU @ 3303MHz and card clocks at 750/640 before the SLI-DR died on me. Board has already been sent back to reseller for a refund. For some odd reason, I get much better CPU speed with the Ultra-D. Also, the card is capable of much higher clocks, maybe 780-800 on the core.

Thanks for the feedback Sierra. What kind of voltage are you running on the core? Even at 40k don't you find your Neo2 setup faster?

Gateway is the most common use of two NICs in one PC, and DFI's intended use {i think}. You can also make your PC a router with win2K3 server and two NIC's {or Free BSD or Linux} or you could just use one NIC to connect to your LAN which connects VIA your Router/Switch to the Internet, and use the second builtin NIC to connect to your VPN at work.

Lots of uses, but I dont think normal everyday users will need them, beacuse a $49 store bought router is much easyer to set up and maintain.

The on die nVidia NIC's drivers let you choose inbetween Throughput, and CPU, chooseing CPU will cut down on CPU cycles used at the expence of some bandwidth. The NIC is realy actuly quite good, I personaly would rather use it as opposed to say a $30 Dlink or that sort. Now YES @ $100 Intel Pro 1000 will beat the socks off the nVidia NIC....But for $80 to $100 it better
