Angry K8V Deluxe & Via 4in1 Disaster

Have just built a new system around K8V Deluxe, Athlon64 3000+, 1 Gig Corsair XMS DDR 400, 2 x Segate 120 Gig SATA and Radeon 9700 Pro.

Installed WinXP SP1 and video drivers. All worked well. Noticed that the video card was only running at AGP 4x with Fast Writes OFF. Would not let me change it, so I installed the Via4in1 drivers and the video was then at 8x AGP with FastWrites On. Cool....... WRONG

Anything that I tried to run which involved 3d graphics would either not run at all or would lock up or give me infinate loop errors.

Being a patient kind of guy I reinstalled the OS and tried a few different revisions of the Via4in1 drivers. SAME RESULT each time.

System is running well without the Via drivers but benchmarks significantly lower that it would with 8x AGP. and yes the BIOS is set to AGP 8x.

Any suggestions from you gurus would be greatly appreciated.

Have you been installing the chipset drivers after the graphics drivers? Generally the chipset drivers should be installed right after the OS and SP1. The installation order can sometimes make a difference. If you haven't done so already, you should look at Mr Steveo's OS and software installation guide.
