| Nvidia nforce3 250 chipset? Has anyone heard when the new Nvidia nforce3 250 based motherboards will be out? I’m thinking of getting rid of my Pentium 4 3.0 and P4C800-E for an Athlon64 3400+ based system.

| They should be out sometime in the first quarter of 2004. I'm planning on replacing my current system as well with the new AMD processors.

| Unfortunately..... The Nvidia SoundStorm APU is EXCELLENT. Good in analog----superb in digital. No PCI card needed at all for great sound and it's fast and doesn't steal cycles from the CPU. Too bad Nvidia is not going to include it with Nforce3----what a shame----are these guys bumbleheads or what. Nforce3 has no APU ability and no IGP ability.....how do you say it?.....uncompelling..... Via and ATI are gonna bury them in the next couple of years unless they get their head out..... I'm an NForce2 Fan--------and I just don't see Nvidia following up on the great success of Nforce2 by taking away 2 of its selling points. When you look at what Via is already doing (and what's planned) with AMD 64s-----and SIS may have the BEST solution right now for 64's with their own version of Hyper threading----why bother with a cutdown version of NForce3. What a shame----what a shame.......

| I agree, that's what bugs me most about the nForce 3 150 chipsets. Those were only the first nForce 3 chipsets, though, which were designed for workstations (Opteron). We still have to wait for the desktop nForce 3s. Hopefully Soundstorm will be brought back with the MCP-S.

| Correct Correct----no Soundstorm in either the 150 or 250 There is an underground movement to get it into the 250----but it's not looking good. What a shame----and they stopped further development on their integrated Graphics chipset. Right at the time that SFF boxes are becoming so very popular. Their Geforce4 MX Integrated graphics are soooooo much better than Intels, Via's or SiS's----it isn't even funny. Now they won't have either of their absolute advantages with the chipset. What's the word I'm searching for----ah yes-----uncompelling. An Sis 755 board looks like a great deal if a major manufacturer picks it up.

| Nvidia is smoking some strong *****. First the FX5800 and now this. They are losing a lot of customers. They will for sure lose another one if performance on the nForce 3 sucks. I am a HUGE fan of the Soundstorm which was going to be one of the reasons why I am getting nForce 3. Without Soundstorm, the only deciding factor for me left is its performance.

| Ati just not to long ago came out with thier integrated graphics, so i think thats goin to hurt nvidia even further. I wonder whos making all the decisions around there, its not to hard to see what people want in a mobo. I have to agree its not looking to good for them, its gotta suck goin from #1 to taking a head long plummet to dead last.

| You have a Pentium 4 3.0ghz 800fsb and you want to get rid of it? Some people have way too much money on their hands. At least wait until Doom 3 or Halflife 2 to come out before you upgrade. |

| wures6, I've gone through two rev.2 P4C800-E's in the last month and have not been able to get the 3.6GHz overclock I had with the rev.1 P4C800-E I sold. I was thinking that the Althlon 64 3400+ would give me around the same performance as a Pentium 4 overclocked to 3.6GHz. I almost went for the IC7 Max3 but after reading a lot of theads in this forum and at ocforums.com I decided that would not be a wise choice. Now over here on the AMD side I'm not reading very good predictions about the Nforce3 250 or the VIA K8T800 chipset?

| I went to a friend's house yesterday who had just built a an Athlon 64 system. I recommended an nForce 3 mobo from Asus since I was very happy with my Asus A7N8X. His graphics card is the Radeon 9800XT and I was very impressed by the benchmarks. In 3DMARK01SE he scored around 20,400 and in Aquamark he scored 50,000 I think. My Athlon XP 3000+ and Asus Geforce FX 5900 Ultra scores 15,800 and 40,000 respectively. I don't have his score for 3DMARK03 because he had a sound card issue that made him crash at the end. It must be the soundblaster Live or the sound driver. I was really looking forward to the results. Anyway, I was very impressed and since I believe there is no huge difference between our two graphics cards, I think his CPU, chipset, memory are the reasons for the big performance difference. Someday, I will take out my FX5900 Ultra and put it in into his system to see just how much more the new Athlons can squeeze out of it. But like I said to him before he built his system. You should at least wait for Doom 3 or HL2 or until a new case standard comes out. You don't want to build one now and find out that you can't max out Doom 3 settings on your newly built system and end up playing it at 800*600 resolution. Do you really need that much speed right now or is this all just about bragging rights? |

| For me it's a hobby I build a box-----get the most out of it----then sell it. I usually lose a little on the sale----and the person who buys gets a GREAT box for a GREAT price----but I've had fun with it-----learned some new tricks----time to move on to other technology. The only one I haven't been able to sell lately is my A7N8X Deluxe ver 2 in a hand modified Aluminum case. My wife came out in the garage one day and fell in love with the darn thing----she loved SoundStorm and the windowed case---and the lights and the DVD burner. It was a "looks" thing with her----she didn't give a hoot that the unlocked Barton 2500 would easily do FSB 222 and with a 9700 pro----it was a screamer. She just liked the look and sound. Gave it to her for Xmas but I smuggled out the Barton----the 9700pro, and the OCZ Ram----put in some generic stuff-----she doesn't know the difference and is very happy. Anyway----when all is said and down---I learn a tremendous amount and after I sell something----my "hobby" actually doesn't cost me that much. My latest thing is SFF boxes-------what a challenge-----pack the most performance you can in a case the size of a shoebox!!! Talk about FUN!! John

| Totally agree Quote:
But why they are leaving it out of the 250 chipset just destroys me..... It's already developed for cryin out loud!!!! Leave it in the 250-----make some money off it-----use it as a sales point.......just refine the drivers a tad-----Everyone will buy the 250 like hotcakes if it is solid---can overclock decently, AND HAS SOUNDSTORM!!! Sell it UNTIL you have your stand alone ready to go. I just don't get these guys..... They used to be the BEST I see a clouded Nvidia future------if they don't start doing some changing within that company----and soon-----ATI, Via----and even SiS (with their hot little 655TX and 755 Chipsets) are gonna bury Nvidia.
