trouble adding 2nd HDD to A8N-SLI Deluxe

I've got a friend who owns a PC built with the A8N-SLI Deluxe and he's trying to add a second hard drive to the system. The Pc came preconfigured with a WD 250G drive on SATA port 0. He's tried adding the second drive to port 1 and then port 2. He says that the drive is "seen" in bios during bootup but then a "sata raid manager" appears after his windows desktop appears. The new HDD does not appear in disk management or my computer etc. I know he's got a silicon image controller as well as the Nvidia controller (I think) both of which appear to be enabled in bios. He doesn't want raid and I assumed that the HDD operating IDE (JBOD) wouldn't require any drivers. I'm an Intel person and I assumed that he'd hook it up, go to disk management, format it, name it and off you go. Apparently I'm missing a checkbox somewhere or a setting in bios. I'm trying to help at a distance by phone so any insight would be appreciatted. This SHOULD be easy and I'm at a loss.

I have the A8n32-sli deluxe. The bios settings for the nvidia controller are in the Main / IDE Config section of the bios. I have 4 ports and can enable or disable the ports and set them for raid or sata.
The sli controller requires a driver and the bios settings are in the Advanced / Onboard device section of the bios.
Hope that helps.
