AVG Free 8 - Install failed

Has anyone tried it yet? I tried it on XP Pro SP2 with AVG Free 7.5 installed. The install ended in a "Not Responding", after it uninstalled v7. I had to kill it and restart. Luckily, I had a fresh image of my C partition.
Wondering if anyone else has any experiences to report.

Re: AVG Free 8 - Install failed

LOL...well...I came on cause I was having difficulties getting it started after an install on my daughter's notebook. I got it installed, but then it wouldn't respond or update. I just cleaned it out and will try a fresh start.

Re: AVG Free 8 - Install failed

Yeah, it's here: AVG Free - Download installation files & documentation
But, I agree with Ozzie. Wait for them to sort out the issues before trying it.

Yes, it is good. But right now I would only install 7.5.

Re: AVG Free 8 - Install failed

I've installed it both clean installs and a number of upgrades with mixed results..
One 845 mobo failed upgrade while another system with the exact same specs installed (clean) but slowed the system considerably until I disabled the safe search plugin. This may have been a conflict with Mcaffe's site advisor that was already installed.
It's working swimmingly on my Vista 64 installs except I changed the default email program on one of them from Thunderbird to Outlook and had to manually set the email scanner before it would scan my incoming emails. ( I installed Outlook after AVG8)

******edit***** I'm running AVG Pro on the Vista installs, so my above comments may not apply...

Re: AVG Free 8 - Install failed

I installed it but I found that one of my mmorpg games (Lineage II) would not start because AVG8 thought L2.exe was a virus, and held the executable in quarantine no matter what I did. So out went AVG 8.

That's because you probably had the "auto fix" turned on.

I turned off "auto fix" way back when that happened to me with version 7.0. Now it's set to manual fix. Just check the results screen periodically to see if you have a real virus. Eventually Grisoft will update the database.

I'm currently running v.7.5.
