Yes, it is still the case. The "firewall" (personaly I don't think we should even call it a firewall) in XP SP2 does not provide outbound protection.

Just right click on the article, and "Save as". You do have Adobe Reader installed, right? You need that to see the .pdf file, which is the format of the Document. I assume you do since you can read it. You can also save the document directly from Adobe Reader. BTW, go to the version in the Reports and How-To Guides Forum here to download it, not the other site - you can't save it from there.

Speaking for myself, no problem with you linking to it perris. Several other sites have already done so, and it is starting to come up on the search engines as well.

Three I know about offhand are Hardocp, osnews and warp2search. Of course, TweakHound's site as well.

BTW, we had a big spike in new members as well - about 500 of them in the last three days.

Looking on OCP for the link, i can't seem to find. Maybe it was taken down.

I really like the idea. Some fresh content around here. Any talks on version 2.0 yet?

I can see it becoming "the" guide to securing XP in the future!
Also, really good to see many people joining these past couple days!

It was listed in Hardocp's news list on Monday. If you look for that, you will find it there.

A little soon for v2, but I'm sure there will be one as we get commentary about any errors, missing ideas, etc.

Kudos to you both.
I have gone through it twice. Glad to see the part about not "accessing Internet" before loading AV, and other protection. Also the part about multiple backups.

Again very good guys.

let me add something that I think you missed;

the default log in is root in xp...surfing the web should be done with restrictive rights

everyone should have a default web account that's not administrator

PS, I stuck the article at osnn and it's getting nothing but accolades
