| I'm very surprised to see Norton rank as high as they did. I stopped using them after NAV2005. One of the guys at work here insists on using Norton and it really slows his system down. I've been using the free home version of Avast for a couple of years now and it is really good. It's never caused any slowdowns that I've seen. Can't recommend it enough. Too bad it didn't rank a bit higher. |

| I go through lots of AV programs it seems but I have been using Avast for a while now without any trouble. Since I have been using Vista I can't remember one single virus or spyware alert.

| I've been using Kaspersky for the past 2+ years with no issues...in fact I recently renewed my subscription if I had to switch I would probably use NOD32...I'm surprised at NOD's ranking on that list although I agree with the article concerning NOD32's bad interface, that's one of the main reasons I chose Kaspersky over NOD32...I'm also surprised at Norton's high rating

| My experience has been that a lot of people have to choose an AV package based on issues it causes with other software. We went through several before settling on Avast as it did not cause our accounting software to crash.

| Not the planet I'm on. I've used Norton and currently use NOD32, there's no comparison. While neither program has let a virus or malware through, Norton turns a computer into a slug. Good luck trying to remove all of the program should you decide to do so. NOD32 uses very few computer resources, great for laptops as well as more speedy destop PCs. The interface doesn't bother me, once you get the many options set the way you want, you don't even need to look at it. Before NOD32, I used BitDefender, another good AV program with a slightly heavier footprint than NOD32. I would pick BitDefender over Norton as well. Don't know much about Kaspersky, but if you use Kaspersky, NOD32 or BitDefender, you're probably in pretty good hands. |

| I remember Norton Internet Security (which came with my motherboard) causing 100% CPU utilisation and forcing Windows Messenger to start every few minutes because I had set both MSN and Windows Messenger to not run at Windows startup. After that I got rid of it and replaced it with AVG Free and Sygate and will never go back to using a Norton security app. Luckily I've had little need for anti-virus but just have one installed because it doesn't sacrifice much system performance now.

| What do people recommend for system with no Internet access? My personal files I keep on a server with no internet access. I do however, connect with my laptop and download to a USB key. I bring files over to my server from this USB key. My Laptop is old and underpowered (P II 333 Mhz) Ideally I would like to download signature files to the USB key, and then bring them over to my server, and run the AV software there. Any recommendations? |

| A heads-up for anyone using KAV/KIS ... you would be well-advised to read this thread over at DSLReports: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r186...t-me-at-ISwift Kaspersky seem to be getting a fair bit of flack over this, and I can understand why, if what testers are demonstrating is correct. And since there seems to be little-to-no response from KL up-til-now, I can see someone getting pretty pi55ed and going legal on their asses. Well worth the read and understanding for KAV/KIS users.
