A mod would have to remove it once other people have posted in it.
Folding information here Folding@home links, howtos, etc.
Come join our team, we'd love to have you.

Let me expand on what garnet said. Yes, you can delete a thread you started but only if nobody else has posted in it. After that only a mod can delete it.

And let me tell you, unless it was an inappropriate thread or something they likely won't delete it (even by request). Realize that if it was a problem then "somebody", "sometime" may have the same problem so a search would bring up that thread and help them too.

KT, it is really strange, but I never saw this excellent thread before. Frankly, even though it is a sticky, I personally think it is in the wrong Forum. And, there should be a link to it at least on the FAQ pages. What I am going to do is move it it Open Chat where it might be seen more frequently. It can be moved elsewhere if one of the other mods think it would get more views by new members in a different place.

Not a sticky anymore?

And why is it in "open chat zone" now?

Updated Newbie guide and FAQ to cover the new rules, reputation system (in FAQ) and cover a few other new things that have changed in the last 6 months or so (sig rules, HDXZone, etc...)

Good idea to update KT ...Uh, I'm probably being thick, where the heck is this located on the site? (edit: "open chat?" !!!)BTW, I cannot find it quickly after a cursory look about, so how will a new member? Perhaps it should be put with other FAQs or merged with one in some fashion? As it's purpose is to orient new members to ABX, it needs to be both accessible and prominent. Also, while the term "newb" is a common internet expression, many newcomers here are anything but that technically, although many do indeed find us as the result of a problem search and wind up staying. Is there anything else we might use as a form of address in the FAQ? Not intended as a critique...just a thought...hell, I'll even give you one of the much sought-after, more-precious-than-gold "rep" greenies for this contribution!

CJ and mods were, at one time, talking about incorporating it into the webstie FAQ somehow and linked from front page, but that has yet to happen.

Personally, I think it should be (as it used to be) a sticky and in the "miscallaneous" forum where it would likely be seen by new members.

I see your point about "newbie"....my intent was that it was for ABX newbies, not "tech" newbies. I'll give some thought to other titles and change if I think of something that seems well suited.

I agree a 100%... Stuck.

Excellent guide and we need to find some way to link to it from the FAQ so that everybody finds it right away.

Or rewrite it in FAQ "format".

If CJ wants it in a different format, so that it works better for the FAQ....just tell me the format and I'll convert it for him.

I'm not saying it is in a wrong format or anything. I'm just thinking that maybe we could rewrite it in the style of the FAQ and in the FAQ.

Maybe we should give it some attention in the staff section...

I understood what you meant....font, color, etc....

I just meant if there was a format written down somewhere "oficially" what that is, I'd do it for you guys and pass it along.

Ok....based on Wingit's suggestion, I changed the title to "New Member's Guide and FAQ" instead of Newbie. Can a mod fix it so the front page make it show up correctly? - Thanks.

KT, I agree this should go in the FAQ, or at least be linked to there. If you think this would be better in another Forum, just let me know. I was the one who moved it to Open Chat, because I thought new members would be more likely to see it there. If we sticky it in the News Forum, it would grab and hold a spot on the Front Page, not much room there to spare, so I didn't think that would be a good place for it. Maybe a one line news post with just a link wouldn't take too much room nd we could stick that for a while?

BTW, I did post here a while back when I did the move and stuck it. I did stick it didn't I? If not, my bad, I certainly intended to.
