KT - I never noticed this before. Very nice.

Why not welcome new members after their first post with a "welome to ABX" post by a mod and include a link to this thread? I have heard positive feedback about this approach for new members joining a forum and may be a welcome sign for a site as large as ABX.

Excellent point since IIRC vb does generate a confirmation email to the new user asking for email confirmation before fully enabling the account. I have no idea how to edit that automatic email confirmation, but I'm sure CJ does, and adding the link along with one to the FAQ's would be an excellent idea. Thanks for that one - and a positive rep for you Snafu for that as well! Now that's the way it should be used, folks!

We could create a 1 post thread and make a few copies of it and put it in the OT forum, feedback, etc...

Yes...I think it would be better in the "Miscallaneous" forum. Most new members don't know about OT or aren't comfortable enough (not knowing anybody yet) to post in there. I figure "Miscalleneous" is where many newcomers (who generally come here for a problem) would post and likely see it.

And no, you didn't sticky it because at the time it was brought back up Tweakhound had posted something in the news forum and I posted a link to it there ("that" was a sticky post at the time).

Thanks PCB - and totally agree that this is how rep points should be used. Appreciate the rep

Why debate which of teh existing forums it should go into but rather create a new forum? IMO a forum for new members to either introduce themselves, show off thier rigs, introduce them to ABX or whatever would be great. I can see why this idea may not take off as it would add to OT.

From personal experience I hated posting here cold for the first time here without even introducing myself to anyone or others knowing who I was (a green newb). I am sure there are other new members who feel the same and may be overwhelmed by the number of posts and topics that appear (even I get swamped by the new posts).

Might get some more participation from new members if they have a place where they can start out from and are wellcomed by folks.

Another excellent suggestion - keep it up Snafu, you are on a roll here. I will approach CJ on this. I suspect he will go for the idea. KT hold tight on the correct forum until I get a response from CJ on a New Member Forum. And, BTW another + for you Snafu. You deserve it truly!

This has been approved. I will be setting up a New Members Zone under The ABX-Files. You should be able to see it shortly. I will also move this thread after I have done the setup.

Cool!!! A new forum for new members to start their way at ABX. I thought I would start it off with an introduction to myself. Now need some other new members or not so new members like myself to introduce themselves.

BTW wonder why it wasn't called Snafu's New Members Forums
