Hey guys, assist with new rig plz!

Been reading these forums for the last few days, many of you are extremely knowledgable about comps and I really appreciate what I have learned so far.

I'm currently in the UK right now working as an intern making some money for when I get back to the states, which will be early September.

Basically, I'm looking to build a new computer during the months of September-November, I'll wait on things if there are some huge expected price drops or amazing new hardware coming out.

To break it down for all of you, I'd like to spend $1700-1800 on a new computer, preferrably with the Intel quad and 4GB of ram. I've never OC before but if I need to I have experienced friends and a willingness to learn.

Keep in mind I use my computer for 90% games, only MMOs like Lineage II and I'd like to have something ready for Age of Conan and AION when they come out.

Any help and suggestions are most welcome and appreciated, thanks.

A few of us are holding out for the "Penryn" chip from Intel that is due to hit the shelves around late November. An exact date hasn't been announced yet. Also the new Nvidia G92 series is due out around that time. Your budget may be a little tight for that setup especially if you insist on 4g of ram. Memory is high right now especially DDR3. In fact for 4g of DDR3 memory you could spend $1000 right there. I hope to see prices go down by then. When you are ready to do your build I, and others, can give you a better idea what to go for in your price range.

I think $800 is a little steep for a P4 laptop honestly. Unfortunately a new one with dedicated graphics can be expensive but for about $200 more or so you could get a much better machine. I don't think the old alienware is worth more then $600 at the most at least not to me.

I agree on the laptop, I just got an email from Dell for a C2D Vostro with a 120g HD and a gig of ram for that price..
