I used to maintain a policy on genmay that prevented people from using free email accounts to register...cut down on spamming, but it also hurts membership.

That's a little rough since so many people use them. One way that I think would help is requiring new members to have 15 posts before being able to post links, either in sigs or in the message body like Traveler suggested in another thread. We have a lot of hit and run spammers here.
