| Does anyone else get this problem? I have a ASUSTeK CUSL2-C motherboard and a Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! Platinum sound card running in Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition. Whenever I play any games (i.e. Quake 3 Arena, Quake 3 Team Arena, Unreal Tournament, Soldier of Fortune, Sacrifice, etc.), I get these strange "poping" "clicking" and "crackling" sounds during gameplay. I've tried everything to fix this from lowering sound levels in Windows and my speakers, switching PCI slots (It's in PCI slot 2), disabling ACPI, installing the latest BIOS and driver updates, changing IRQ's (My SB Live! is using IRQ 10 and the only thing it is sharing it with is "ACPI IRQ Holder For PCI Steering"), exchanging sound cards, exchanging motherboards, lowering video and sound acceleration, disabling DMA, installing the latest patches, etc. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, did you fix it and how? Any information would GREATLY be appreciated...... |

| Are you sure it happens only when you play games?I have some popping as well but I think it`s because of the electricity coming through the wall socket.Last week, when I switched off my computer I heard a popping sound AND THE COMPUTER WAS OFF except for the speakers(altec lansing). | I use a different soundcard, but have also noticed this problem. Try disabling digital cd audio for the cd rom. Also (W2000) has a problem for me with media player 7. The version that comes with 2000 is fine.

| Yep, it only happens during games. It is just random "clicks" and "pops" while playing games. Here is something you can try to test to see if you have it: You either need the demo of Quake 3 Arena or the full version to do this. Make sure your speaker volume is turned up and the sound is at full with music turned all the way down. Create a skirmish game in any map you want and choose zero opponents. When the game is started, walk around and just move about the level. Pick up weapons, armor, powerups, whatever you want to do. The thing is, you have to listen closely. When your walking around and doing stuff, see if you hear these small clicking or poping sounds. Now imagine that on my system ten times worse. |

| Hey, Last night I upgraded my cusl2 Bios to v1006a from 1001a. I have a SoundBlaster Live 5.1 as well, and as of last night I started showing the same symptoms. I could just be sitting there moving stuff on my desktop and I would get a hiss/static sound comming out of my speakers whenever I would move stuff around. I opened the mixer (under record section) and noticed that the mixer led's was seeing the sound too. At that time I had the CD-Player selected for recording features so for the heck of it I took that selection off and selected like the line in or something and it stopped. Very strange. I've had that card for about a week now and it's worked just fine everytime until last night. And the only stuff I did to my computer last night was upgrade the bios from 1001 to 1006 and install/run sisoft sandra, mother board monitor, and a few other benchmark utilities, so i doubt that those had anything to do with that. Maybe I'll try downgrading the Bios and see if that fixes the problem. I'll do more searching first before I do that though. Don't want to mess with Bios upgrades unless I really need to. Also, if anyone figures this one out, please let me know as well Thanks, -a |

| Well, whenever you downgrade your BIOS, tell us if that helped or not. Also, go into your advanced Windows mixer settings under your microphone and disable 20db microphone boost. After that, mute all your other devices (assuming you have them all showing) except master out and wave out. See if that helps. |

| I don't think it's the Bios now... It didn't act up on me at all last night when I used my computer, but now today it is. I haven't done anything to the machine yesterday or today. Very strange and really starting to **** me off!!! |

| I fixed mine by going to Sound Properties>Play Control>Advanced and unchecking the "Digital Output Only" box. I was hearing my cdrom drive spin in my speakers which was giving me the hiss and pops. CUSL2 1006 with SB Live here. |

| I have been trying to tell people about that, but apparently it's not a popular solution...
