| Creative X-Fi - A downgraded sound card? Is Creative's latest soundcard a downgrade from its predessessors? Usually Creative added things to successor products. But I look at the X-Fi and 1) see no more dual firewire ports, 2) read that there is no more hardware decoding, 3) see fewer ports on the card, 4) no more Dolby decoding (says it on the box but its not in the card), 5) no more DTS decoding (says it on the box but not in the card), and 6) .... Why would someone want a X-Fi verses a previous card? ??? ??? |

| Re: Creative X-Fi - A downgraded sound card? Who uses them anyway? It was always done in software. My Audigy 4 shows the software decoder in Device Manager (see attached screenshot). ![]() I've not noticed this but I don't own an X-Fi. Quote:
The main reasons to get an X-Fi are the improved HRTF and resampling over the older cards.

| Re: Creative X-Fi - A downgraded sound card? I noticed that my new X-fi Extreme Gamer has about half the PCB of my older one. It's kinda nice in that it gives more air space for my video card fan. I haven't noticed any real difference from the old card as far as quality though I have had problems in a couple of new games with stuttering sound. Those being Bioshock (still playable) and Crysis (unplayable)

| Re: Creative X-Fi - A downgraded sound card? X-Fi itself is much better then Audigy - sound quality is better because the main audio processor is much more powerful. Latest X-Fi is actually PCI Express card so it all boils down to the question wheter PCI Express is better then old PCI... ![]() Source: PCI-Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio |

| Re: Creative X-Fi - A downgraded sound card? The Xtreme Audio doesn't have the hardware DSP of the previous X-Fi cards (heck even Live! and Audigy cards), I don't think. Is there a planned PCI-E version with the hardware DSP (like the Xtreme Gamer or better)?
