Dual Widescreens

I am considering a new rig. Does anyone use dual widescreens, or is that just excessive (horizontally)? If you've had any experience with dual widescreen setups, please comment. Thanks.

Re: Dual Widescreens

I have 3 dual monitor configurations. 2 21in wide screens, 2 19in standard screen and 1 21in wide and 1 19in standard. All work just fine and very easy to setup.

Re: Dual Widescreens

Its never too much. 2 widescreens side by side should be good to go. But dont go 3 widescreens that would be too much. The limit is 2 widescreens or 3 standard screens. More than that would be too wide and ull have to turn your head this way and that. Unless ofcourse u arange them all in a semi circle. I regularly work on a dual standard screen setup. Let me tell you that once your used to dual screen....You just wouldnt want to go back to a single screen setup.

Re: Dual Widescreens

If I was given a blank check I'd probably get two 24" 1920x1200 widescreens. Should be enough.

It could probably fit 6 or so 80-width Emacs buffers, hello nirvana.

Zapionics > Hi i didnt understand What STALKER or CRYSIS means ? Are they system monitor brands ? Probably because im from across the globe i didnt understand these terms.

But i sure understand DROOL ! and yes,,,imagine like the control hub in THE MATRIX movie. Of course one would need to have an additional graphics card and a Motherboard that supports it.

Re: Dual Widescreens

Anyone planning to pick up dual wide screens SHOULD....check that the monitors and their color representations are equal and the same model. Also beware that sometimes the monitors will be the same brand and model no. But the production quality changes from batch to batch. I had one such incident. I bought the exact same monitor. Same Brand Same Model No everything matched. Then on my dual screen set up, one of the monitors always had a different color tone. And a slightly different sharpness element to it. I tried all sorts of calibration to no avail. Then i was shocked to find out and identify that the very menu shape and construction of the menu itself was different even though they were similar models. Hence you wont get an equal and perfect blend between the monitors. Theres nothing more irritating and unaesthetic than having a dual monitor where one monitor is OFF in color tone. It loses the illusion of being one continuous monitor.

Yes, this could happen if the screens are from differerent factories/suppliers but badged as the same model.

Two popular games, and I was just dreaming! because the game would have to support dual monitors for it to work... but it would be really sweet thing to have

Re: Dual Widescreens

Oh no wonder i couldnt make anything of it. Ive never been a fan of gaming. Its known to be very addictive.

For the orginal thread poster, i think you should switch on both the monitors and put them side by side (even without a comp hooked up), just look carefully at the startup screens and see if there are color differences. Also see how the lettering etc looks. Press the setup buttons. See if the menu panels look different in size or font style etc. They should look very similar in every aspect apart from the physical looks.

I'm a man of moderation. Dual 24" screens would suit me fine, even if I had a bajillion dollars. And Emacs buffers are good when playing as well.

And I've yet to see someone call it "blow cash in style" and thereafter succeed in doing just that.

Just kidding. Im sure your duals would make you more than happy. There are some things/feelings that not a billion dollars can replace.

Re: Dual Widescreens

So long as you have the space to keep them far enough away from you, they you should be fine. The other thing it to have the same brightness, otherwise it's kind of lame. I have a 19" 4:3 and a 22" 16:9 and unfortunately the 19" isn't bright enough.

I'd be happy with one 24", except a good one is twice the cost of a good 22".
