The biggest difference as someone here has already mentioned is the quality of the material on the DVD itself. Even the highest end DVD's still don't come close to HD tv, I love HD tv.
If you get the Panasonic you will definitly be happy with it!

Hope that helps
Thats the one I'm going with (Samsung dvdhd 850 for $135) good personal reviews on a few sites and a good price, and like you say even the highest end dvd won't be has good has HD TV. I really wasn't really never excited about HD TV until I hooked up my LCD HD to Comcast HD, Unbelievable, I just wish there was more channels...

Glad to hear you made your choice, I don't think you'll be dissappointed (it's the sexiest looking player too . I also wish there was more HD channels, the quality is outstanding. Here in BC I only get 8 HD channels through shaw which isn't nearly enough!

Got the Samsung DVD-HD850 and couldn't be happier, plays both dvd-r and dvd+r with no problem (main reason for getting this player) can't really tell any difference between 720p or 1080i but the pictures is wonderful on my 32 lcd hdtv, and these are backup copys of my dvd's....Highly recommend really easy to setup and use...

Did you have a previous player that you were using with that panel prior to purchasing the Sammy?

No i do have a Progressive scan on my other tv (36" sony xbr crt), I'll try running the sammy at 480p and then 780p and see if there's any difference, for the price I got it for even if there's no difference, having the hdmi cable and the easy hookup and being able to play both format dvd's is worth it!:wave2:

A bit ot, but what's the price of those HDTV's in the 26-32 inch range? The samsungs are parrticularely nice. My monitor is great and all for pc gaming, even for the 360, but it makes my gamecube and reg xbox go to waiste. If I do get another console, I won't be able to hook it up seeing all my ports on my monitor are gone. S-video and composite look horrible on this monitor too..

Edit :: Just checked futureshop, the prices are still way above my league. I personally don't even support lcd's for tv's. Dlp's great, but I think HDTV tubes are just as good in comparison, maybe my parents will buy a new TV and i'll hook some of my consoles up to it.

Double edit :: Wow, you can get 30+ inch HDTV tube tv's with HDMI for less then 800 canadian. That's awesome!

Sorry for going ot btw.

I got a Proview from Costco for $999, I never heard of it either, but it was right next to a Sony, Sharp, Panosonic (those where between $1500 and $1700 ) and the Proview had just a good of picture than any of the others, and with Costco's return policy (if you never happy with the product just bring it back), I figured I'd give it a try and I've been very happy. It has all the hook ups on the back the only thing is the remote there is no code for it, I could not program it to my Comcast HD cable box!....These where all 32"

FV, unless your working with TV'S for several thousand dollars in the DLP range or so, I think brand is a bunch of bullocks.

My uncle bought his son a no name or something 2x inch tv a few years back, tube, flat screen or whatever, and it looks just as good as our sony back at home which is 36 inches and a lot more pricewise (it may be 32, not sure on that though.)

I'll keep my eyes out. If they drop enough, I could see some purchase coming from me.

Let me ask you though, can you hang it on a wall? I don't mean litteraly hang, but is there mounting tools, or do oyu need some sort of shelf?

Edit :: Btw, I have heard that the LCD TV'S have refersh rates far from the monitors. For gaming apparently they are not the best choice. I can't comment because I don't own one myself, but I thought the ones at ebgames on display were pretty good, then again, the demos aern't a good judgement I supose.

It has the the mounting for VESA 100mm on the back, so yes it is wall mountable, I just looked Mwave has a Viewsonic 32 for $1025 and the prices are coming down every day....

FV, it's good to know. Now seems to be a decent time to buy seeing they've been on the market for some time. I'm going to hold my patience though, somethign neat will come out for a similiar price in a years time like always. Not like I have the money, my parents spoil me enoguh anyway. I jsut got a 360, what am I complaining about? LOL.

Edit :: I wonder what that looks like compared to my monitor. In theory, regardless of HDMI and connections, computer LCD monitors like your dell 2405fpw or my 2005fpw are actually better. We have higher resolutions, both of our monitors are above 720p, yours is 1080p I think. My only complaint is how the aspect ratio is 16:10, few connections and how games get stretched as my native is 1680x1050. Not to complain though, it's all good.

Double edit :: Fvbounty, what do these offer sound wise? J/C. Optical or regular rca?

So, your avoiding plasmas?

My uncle just got a 5x inch samsung DLP. The television is beautiful for DVD'S and all that good stuff, but in regular television it's horrible. He needs to cough up the HD bill for the cable company so it will actually look right.

Anyway, LCD and DLP seem to be the ways to go. Lcd being sharper and more expensive I think. Plasmas are now not so popular I think seeing we have better alternatives.
