I forget the exact numbers but based on the half-life of the gas in plasma displays if a person were to watch the tv 4 hrs a day it would be 10 yrs before the display was half as bright as it was new. You would probably replace your plasma before you noticed it dimming, especially with prices dropping the way they are.
You are of course, correct. The new gen plasma panels are as susceptable to burn in as a CRT panel, and they are rated @ 80,000 hours to get to 50% brightness. Plamas are great these days except for that they aren't that bright.

LCDs are great too, but they suffer from decreased contrast, and not so true blacks. Ie, most blacks look grey. But they are much brighter than plasmas.

I have been looking at a 37" Sceptre 1080P LCD for 1700$ on costco online.

Brightness, as relative to a LCD panel.

I tell you a little story about there return policy, I bought a Toshiba laptop on line from them, and about after a month our puppy ran into the TV tray that I had the laptop on and knocked it over and pushed in the usb port that I had a mouse plugged into, sent to Toshiba and they said they wouldn't warranty it because they could tell it was dropped, and it would be $385 for new MB, well I said just send it back, took it to the nearest Costco in the box it came in with the receipt and they gave me my money back no questions asked. Now thats the best warranty you can get......

I've brought back stuff that I've bought even after a year and if your not satisfied with the product you get your money back (they changed the policy on computer now only six months) I know guys who where taking backs computers after a year and just upgrading for free, but that was abused to much so they changed the policy....
