| Intel Bad Axe 2 onboard sound question... I just finished setting up my new PC in my profile. Everything went smoothly, but I have two questions. When I try to change the speaker setup in Speaker Settings in Sounds and Audio Devices properties, it changes back after I close it and reopen it. I am using the latest drivers from Intel's website with Intel Audio Studio. Also, when I test my speakers using Audio Studio, only the front left and right speakers and the subwoofer are playing. Is this normal?

| Congrats on your new setup. I have the BA2 myself but I am running Vista. I wish I had Intel Audio Studio back. You might want to see what your settings are in Control Panel>Audio Setup. If I remember correctly there is a check box in CP or IAS that lets the Windows take control of some audio settings. You may have this box checked. I would make sure you have both IAS and Control Panel Audio settings set up identical. Sandog |

| Where is audio setup? I couldn't find it. Also, my surround sound is not working at all. I have 5.1 enabled in Audio Studio and only the front speakers and sub play. Update: I installed the Sigmatel GUI and everything is fine now. It seems to be Intel's Audio Studio causing the problems. Is there any benefit from using the Audio Studio?

| Windows XP Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices Yes MP3 playback sounds astounding with Sonic Focus. You only get Sonic Focus with IAS. You can make a lot of changes in Audio Studio with sound profiles, use Dolby Digital Live, or record. It allows you to get all the features and settings of HD audio and it's a cool looking app. Looks similar to IDCC. |

| I reinstalled IAS and searched through every option within the IAS and Audio Properties and there is nothing that allows Windows to take control of some of the audio settings.

| I believe I saw it come up when I opened the SigMatel app. icon from the system tray. I have a different version from you though (Vista). Sandog |

| I called Intel and they said there was a problem with the software. They also said that there is no difference in audio quality between the Sigmatel GUI and the Audio Studio, so I should be fine with the Sigmatel GUI.
