headphones & speakers . . .

Since my new card/bay connector is not in yet [replacing TBSanta Cruz with XFi Platinum] I'm speaking through my hat in a way.

I game with headphones and play music often with speaker system. I went with the platinum version of the XFi because 3 different users told me that I would not be able to switch phones and speakers on Xtreme Music card via a control panel as on the TBSC, that it would require physically unplugging speaker connector and substituting phones jack on card. I could be ill advised on that, but I ended up spending the extra $$ for just that reason. As to why the switch from Santa Cruz -- which I have dearly loved as a trouble free and enjoyable card -- I listened to a friend's rig before and after the switch from TBSC to XFi [he only uses phones, which is why I had to ask around] and the difference was impressive indeed!

ps: I too am leery of Creative drivers due to incredibly bad problems in the distant past, but I keep hearing that this is no longer a big deal. Of course, some -- like my father -- never bought a Ford after the Edsel!

Anyone have any hands-on experience with the speakers-phones usage on these cards? :confuse2:
