| Which OS is better for movie playback ?? Im making a new system. Sorta like a HTPC but not exactly one. Which OS will perform better, faster and more reliably ? XP HOME or XP PRO ?? I mean in a general way keepin movie playback and system stability in mind. |

| Re: Which OS is better for movie playback ?? Either one will be fine but since XP Home is cheaper, I'd go with that. The differences between XP Home and XP Pro are not multimedia related. ![]()

| Re: Which OS is better for movie playback ?? Few more places have it but those are the most common. Either of the 3 version's of xp will work fine, just depends on how much you want to spend. Load Klite codec package with media player classic and your good to go.

| Re: Which OS is better for movie playback ?? STRDodge > I dont need media center i think. I dont need any of its inbuilt video playing features etc. So no winamp. Or windows media player. Or codec packs either. This is a custom designed software designed just for this purpose and will act as the media player etc. In fact the system will have only the OS (and some other associated drivers & affiliated software) and this software installed. Its a dedicated machine for just this one job of video playback. Thsi machine will not connect to the net or anything. I hope u get what i mean. I dont need any advanced netqorking features etc that XP PRO offers. But im sceptical about using XP HOME because im worried it might be slower or unreliable compared to XP Pro. I need to know if XP Home will perform equal in power, speed (such as response time), and reliablity. I dont need any advanced features except video playback. And yes this is because XP HOME would work out cheaper. Why buy a costlier OS for features like security etc which i wont need. |

| Re: Which OS is better for movie playback ?? Actually I thought one of the service packs made Home the same as Pro anyway? Or do the features still differ?

| Re: Which OS is better for movie playback ?? Thanks so much for your input guys. Ill save about half the cost buying XP Home. Since i dont have to buy PRO for features i wont be using ? STRDODGE > But on a side note. You said XP Pro has additional features do any of those fetaures apply to Video and stability/speed or just plain networking features and other technical mumbo jumbo ? |

| Re: Which OS is better for movie playback ?? Almost. Some things like Virtual PC only run on Pro, but there may be some workaround, and there's always VMWare anyway.
