The DSD layer of SACDs can not be played on any computer. What you will hear is the standard Red Book layer of the disc. To play the DSD you'll need a dedicated SACD player. I have the SACD version of DSOTM too btw.

how does it sound, what am i missing out on?
do you recommend any inexpensive players (5.1 optical out, single disc, doesnt need to be a universal player just sacd)

Note that SACD/DVD-A will not play back over optical/coaxial digital. It will play back the Redbook layer as Acid8000 states, in PCM.

To play back SACD/DVD-A you need a player with 5.1 discrete analog out and an A/V receiver with 6-channel external analog in. You could also go with an iLink/DenonLink player and A/V receiver but those are more expensive.

This is industry's first use of really onerous DRM and is almost singlehandedly responsible for the reason why SACD/DVD-A more or less failed.
